"Shit!"
It was my first actual day of classes and I was definitely not ready. I ran around the temporary dorm, pulling out random clothes from suitcases, hoping to find something that looked good. I had an hour till my class and I still needed to grab some coffee and breakfast. Great start.
Finally, I pulled on a pair of high-rise shorts and a low cut tank top. I ran a comb through my hair and fixed a SnapBack on. It was 90 degrees outside and I was not going to melt today.
I hailed a cab and told the burly driver to take me to the nearest Starbucks. I practically threw a twenty at him and ran inside, praying that there was no line. I had around twenty minutes left until I had to haul my ass to class.
Fuck. There had to be at least 15 people ahead of me. I got into line, tapping my shoe impatiently. When I finally got to the cashier, I looked up from my phone expecting to see a scrawny 25 year old taking my order with a bored tone. Instead, I came face to face with a pair of electric blue eyes and a crooked smile.
"Welcome to Starbucks. Can I take your order?"
It was a girl about my age, with loose black waves stopping right below her shoulders. Her skin was relatively pale, but that was no surprise when you compared it to my mocha brown skin. And... I felt a pull towards her. I wanted to talk to her. Maybe even be friends. But this was Starbucks. I couldn't just talk to someone like that. I snapped out of my daze and stuttered, "One caramel latte, no foam, extra caramel please."
Grinning, the girl took my order and winked. "My favorite order too." She disappeared behind the counter and I looked at the time again. I still had 10 minutes, thank god.
"Caramel latte for Hayley!" I grabbed the hot cup and headed outside. Then, I hailed another cab and headed to the university.
On my way, I remembered the first few days here. I was staying in a hotel and I was supposed to go to the university for the orientation.
We had gotten temporary dorms because of some backup in the system. My roommate came after I fell asleep and left before I woke up. I didn't really care, because I just got the whole thing for myself.
I went sightseeing for the next few days. Took some pictures and FaceTimed my parents. After all the 'we miss you!' and 'wish you were here!'s were over, I logged off and went to sleep. That was yesterday. And now I was here.
The car stopped with a jolt, and I paid the driver. Running out of the car, I sped into the lecture hall, praying I wasn't late. Thankfully, class hadn't started. I took a seat at the back and watched as the professor came in.
"Good morning everyone. I'm Professor Adams..."
I immediately zoned out for the remainder of the time period. After two hours of rambling, he finally set us free. By that time, it was already lunch, and I was starving.
I grabbed a sandwich and checked my phone. I had a class in an hour. My last one today. I finished up my food and started heading to the next class.Author's Note
