And then, at 2:03 on a Tuesday, Riley Stevens ran into my life. With windswept hair and rumpled clothes, she entered the almost full lecture hall, out of breath. Noticing the lack of seats, she rolled her eyes and made her way up to the seat next to mine.
As she sat down, I couldn't help but marvel at how strange she was. She wore black skinny jeans that looked like they were sucking out her soul, and a black muscle tee that should of her finely toned muscles. Her layered black hair was covered with a black (typical) beanie. But what really caught me was when she turned to glance at me.
A corner of her mouth tugged upward as to indicate almost a permanent smirk. There was a dimple on her right cheek that made her look more intriguing. Her lips were plump and coated with a red lipstick, and her eyes. Oh, her eyes.
They were a piercing green that reminded you of an emerald, shined and ready to be displayed. Then they changed to a softer green, like a new leaf in the beginning of spring. And now they were a dark blue, one that you could swim in and see the stars and stare at for hours. Then it turned into a color as cold as ice, that seemed to look under your skin, into your soul. The cycle kept going and going, in a span of what seemed like hours, but was only seconds.
I didn't realize I was staring until I saw her smirk even more and say, "Take a picture, cutie. It'll last longer."
I felt my face turn red. I tried sputtering out an incomprehensible answer, but she just laughed and turned away, back towards the front of the room. Even though I knew I should pay attention to the class, I couldn't help but admire the side view of her space, especially her perfect jawline.
She smirked once again and whispered through the corner of her mouth, "Hey cutie, maybe you should listen to the class."
And so, with my face flaming a bright red color, I turned and tried to pay attention. I could hear the breathing of the girl next to me and could almost imagine the smirk on her face. She seemed sassy and snarky and carefree and I loved it. I wanted to be her friend. That was it though.
Two hours passed, and I kept my eyes at the front, my thoughts swirling around in my head. Finally, the class was over, and I turned to talk to the girl next to me. However, she was gone like the wind. The only thing that was in her place was a small note, which I picked up and read.
Maybe we should hang out. See you tomorrow, cutie
     XOXO ~Riley
