The Guild Tournaments

A week had passed since I had split up with Scalina and Galex, and not a day had gone by without lengthy messages from them both, especially Scalina. It was always nice to read about all the things going on for them.

Galex had made some friends and found a high level swordsman trainer that he was working with. He had already reached level 9 and was starting to become a powerful warrior. He had a little healing magic skill, but not much, and he had gotten into smithing as well. On top of the smithing, he had also taken up enchanting and alchemy. Those skills taken together is one of the most dangerous skill sets to come across, especially since it usually means that everything they own is enchanted to make them tougher and more dangerous, and that their weapons could be poisoned, they could have any number of varying types of potions and poisons on them, and they can buff their own stats in a second if given the chance. The effect is almost like taking a level 30 player, and making them potentially just as dangerous as a level 40 player. And, if push comes to shove, these players can shove right back. I was eager to see his progress in person when the time came.

Scalina, on the other hand, had put more focus on her training and skills than her social life. She had found a magic shop specializing in healing and elemental magic. According to her, she now had a collection of over 37 spells, almost entirely fire based, that she could control and cast effectively. She was dabbling in other elemental magics to try and keep a magical edge in any fight, but it was clear she was a pyromancer. She had also worked to hone her ranged skills, and now she could hit a single target at 200 yards in a crosswind with her crossbow, and score a critical every time. She could also use the bow and hit a few closer targets in quick succession with occasional criticals. She had worked some on her sword skills, but not much, and had instead decided to rely more on stealth, range, and magic. She had reached level 10 just the previous night, and I was certain she could take on a player up to level 14 if she could choose the arena.

I was reading one of her messages and writing a response when Ember appeared next to me, acting oddly bubbly. "Hey Beta, we should go to the play in Drammaegio toni-"

She stopped when she saw I was writing out a message and the bubbly went flat. "Sending her a message?"

I rolled my eyes and laughed at the obvious jealousy. "Yes, oh cute one, I am writing to my friend, and giving last minute tips before the Guild Tournaments tomorrow."

Ember rolled her eyes and acted disinterested, even though we both knew that we had to go watch. The Guild Tournaments would effectively decide who would make it into the top four guilds and at what rank. The ones that didn't make it would be solo players or small clan fighters. Sure they could join the guilds later, but it wouldn't be easy and they would have to fight like hell to reach any kind of good rank. There was a lot of pressure to do well.

I was just giving Scalina a few tips on extending her magika and stamina in a fight, as well as mixing physical and magical combat. She easily had the potential to be one of the top tier members of the magic guild, which would be named the Dragon Gem Alliance.

I thought Galex could probably be a top tier member of the warrior guild, the Silver Fang Brotherhood.

The remaining two guilds were the thief and scout guilds, the Shadow Guard and the Night Raven Clan, respectively.

Between the four guilds, there were going to be four tournaments, each of a different style, and the results would decide the subsequent rank of the members. It was a big deal considering that most players were trying to get into one of the four.

Both Ember and I had decided that we were going to avoid guilds like the plague, and instead stay solo. Although we would probably help the guilds on certain quests and boss raids, to help minimize damage. After all, bosses could kill permanently.
