It had now been 6 months since the launch of Cyber, and in that time only one boss raid had happened. A band of 20 solo players had created a clan and decided to take on a dungeon boss in the far south of the continent, and only one survived to tell the tail of death. The reality of the story had struck home with many players. Twenty of the more powerful players in Cyber had taken on a boss, and only one had survived. If this was a lower level boss, as many believed, then what did that mean for the higher level bosses? It would take an entire guild, or all 4 working together, to safely take on a boss, and that thought was enough to make the majority of players avoid anything that could even potentially be a dungeon.
That was three months prior, and now I was joining in on the second attempt to slay the boss. With all four guilds sending out their top teams, as well as 4 separate clans of 20-30 solo players, and Ember and myself, we were a far more powerful force to be reckoned with than the last 20. Plus we all had 3 months more experience now.
We all stood outside the boss room working out the strategy. All the leaders; Galex, Scalina, a blonde girl from the thieves, a tall skinny guy from the scouts, a messy assortment of solo players, Ember, and myself, we all stood debating the best way to take on the boss. It wasn't until the young 13 year old swords-boy spoke up that any decisions were made.
"Listen guys, I know how this boss fights, I saw it first hand, and I have had 3 months to work out how best to take him on." The way he said it sounded more like how to take his revenge. "The best way to do this is magic fighters front and center with the best defenders guarding them. Flank with the strongest melee fighters. Sneaks slip behind and do damage while his back is turned. Rangers and healers in the back. Everyone else on support. Also, he is an earth based boss, should be weak to wind and water, as well as aerial attacks." Everyone thought for a second about what he had said, and nodded their agreement. After all he was the only one with firsthand experience on this boss.
I clapped my hands loudly and everyone formed ranks. I called out, "I need our top 40 melee fighters in two groups of twenty! Battle mages, front and center! Rangers and healers in the back, and defenders with the battle mages! All others form central support ranks! Its time to kill our first boss!"
This was met with cheering and the clattering of over a hundred moving armored warriors and fighters forming the ranks. Marching in the very front were all the leaders. We opened the boss room door and marched into the dark, stadium sized room.
The doors closed behind us, shutting off all light. I knew that the others aside from Ember would be almost totally blind. I could see the room in half decent detail though, and it was intimidating. This was a room of death. Something in the back of my head, some primal instinct told me to run. Now I was facing true death, something I had never faced in Cyber yet.
Braziers around the room all lit at once, lighting up the walls and revealing grim and gruesome depictions of painful violent death. The floor seemed to have bloodstains all over it. The stench of burning corpses filled my nostrils. The whole place reeked of death and despair.
The soul crushing silence was broken as the room shook and rumbled. The floor cracked and from the void beneath arose the boss.
The boss stood an easy 40 feet tall, and was as muscular as they come. I couldn't decide if it was more beast or man, but it part bear at the least. The head was that of a chaos bear, with purple fur and seemingly random horns and extra eyes. The body was humanoid but thick, covered in the same fur. It had tenticles sprouting from its back and in its massive clawed hands were a sword and battle mace big enough to destroy buildings. It took me a few seconds to recognize that the spiky armor and weaponry were made of stone. It was easily the single most intimidating creature I had ever seen in Cyber. Its stats were invisible, something I hadn't seen since my fight with the demon king.
