It's amazing what can happen in the span of twelve minutes. Some people could run two miles in twelve minutes. A chapter of the best book in the world could be written in twelve minutes. A billion dollar idea could be created in twelve minutes.

I beat my twin sister Loren into the world by twelve minutes. From the minute she came out of the womb, Loren was dying. The doctors told my parents that she would live for only a few minutes.

Dad held me in his arms, and mom burst into tears knowing that she would lose a child. Mom and dad never picked our names for us before we were born, so they had to name us on the spot. Both of my parent's name began with L's, so they decided to have our names start with L's.

Lena and Loren were the first names that they got off the top of their heads. Dad named me, and mom named Loren.

Loren died after only thirteen minutes of living in the world. Mom sobbed, and dad stood with a grim look on his face. Dad handed me off to mom, who then praised me because I was healthy.

Mom kissed my forehead. Loren was taken away by the doctors. Ever since her death, we try not to mention Loren that often.
