I was quiet. I didn't know what to say at first. I didn't expect him to say that. I thought when he said that after telling me I wouldn't want to see him again, maybe he worked at a fast food place or something. I thought he was thinking that I would think he was cheap. But I was not expecting that answer.
He nervously looked at me. "Baby say something".
I wanted to respond but I didn't know what to say. I saw him getting more scared because of my increasing silence. I wasn't trying to upset him. I really didn't know what to say.
Eric called the waitress over and asked for the check. He payed and I still hadn't said a word. After he paid, we got up and walked out the door to the car. He opened my door, allowing me to get in and closed it behind me. My mind was still racing with the information I just got. He's a drug dealer?, I thought. I just couldn't wrap my mind around it.
We rode in silence all the way back to my house. He parked in front of the house and turned off the car. We sat in silence for a minute before he turned to me and spoke. "Look Gabby, I'm not gonna force you into staying or being with me. I completely understand if you don't want to see me again".
I turned and looked at him. "I mean, who would want to be with somebody like me-"
I reached over and gave him the biggest kiss I had ever given anybody before in my life. He was shocked but he quickly kissed me back. We made out for about five minutes before I pulled away from him.
"I'm not going anywhere", I said softly, caressing his face gently
     "What?"
    "Baby, I'm not leaving you"
"Any sane women would. Why would you want to stay with a guy like me?"
"Because I wanna be with you, Eric. I wanna stay with you"
"I'm not good enough for you, Gabby"
    "Yes you are"
    "No, I'm not"
I grabbed his face and held it between my hands. "Ricky", I said softly rubbing his face, "I want you".
He leaned into my hands and closed his eyes. "Baby, I want you too. I just-I don't know".
"I know you don't think you're good enough for me. I know you think I deserve better. But I think I have better right in front of me"
He opens his eyes, looking at me. "You really want to be with me?"
     "Yes", I said
He takes a deep breath. "I only do it to support my family, my mama and daddy. I wanna stop but I need to find something else that I could do that's legal", he chuckled.
I laughed. "Yeah you do. Maybe I could help you when the time comes"
   "I would love that, baby"
  "Alright, we can do that"
We smiled at each other. I'm happy he came clean to me about his life and what he does. If only I could tell him the reason he can't meet my parents.
"So, I know this is early but I would love to meet your parents sometime"
     Fuck!!
"Umm, Eric I don't think that's a good idea right now".
"I know, it's early and we just started dating. It's cool, maybe down the line", he said rubbing my hand.
     "Yeah, sure", I said faintly
He leaned over and gave me a long but sweet kiss goodbye. "I had fun tonight. I can't wait for our next date".
I grinned. "Me either. Hopefully sooner rather than later?"
     "Defiantly", he said
I opened the door and turned and leaned down. "Goodnight, Eric"
    "Goodnight, Gabby" he said
I closed the door and turned and walked away, smiling to myself. When I got to the door I turned back around and wave goodbye to him. He waved back and I turned, again, back to the door and went inside.
It was dark and late when I got in. I went upstairs, passing my parents room hearing snores coming from there, and went into my room.
I got ready for bed and after 30 minutes I finally got in and snuggled up under the covers, thinking about Eric.
    Best date ever
