In A Trance (Chp. 9)

 Duncan's POV

I've been at Rythian's house for 3 days. He's been getting worse. Rythian has been having breakdowns more often. He's really weak, he can't stand up for more than a few minutes without breaking down. Rythian says he's fine but Teep and I can tell he's not. I think being in this house is making it worse. There are to many reminders of Zoey here. He really cared about Zoey, he would have done anything to protect her. But now she's gone. Sometimes Teep and I will be working, and all of the sudden Rythian starts screaming. I try everything I can to comfort him, but he just went crazy.

  Teep, Rythian, and I are eating, then Rythian starts crying. It starts as a few tears and then he starts screaming. He drops to his knees and puts his face in his hands. This has happened many times before, and Teep and I know what to do. We help him to his bed, and we let him sleep. Just as I'm about to leave the room Rythian's voice stops me.

"Duncan?" he whispers.

"Yes Rythian?" I say.

"Where's Zoey?" I immedietly freeze. Rythian has never said anything like this before.

"Umm."

"Is she at her mushroom village?" He still thinks it's the old world. Rythian looks up at me, his eyes were different. They were changing shades of purple. As if he was in a trance.

"I don't know Rythian."

"Can I go see her?" he asks.

"Rythian, you can't."

'Why not?" he asks raising his voice slightly.

"Well." How do you explain to someone the one person they care about most is dead. But they think there still alive?

"I'm going to go see her," he stood up and started to leave the room. But Teep was standing at the door. Rythian looked shocked to see a dinosaur at his door. I just realized he doesn't remember meeting Teep.

"Rythian, this is Teep, your pet dinosaur." I said.

"I have a pet dinosaur? I don't remember that. Just let me go see Zoey." he said trying to push past Teep. But Teep wouldn't let him, he stayed firmly in front of the door.

"Rythian, you can't see Zoey." I said.

"Why not." I looked at Teep to make sure this was what I needed to do. He nodded.

"Zoey is gone."

"Like on a trip?"

"No, like never coming back."

"She moved away?"

"No."

"Then what happened?"

"She's... dead." I whispered.

"No. No, no, no, no. This isn't true. Tell me this isn't true!" he said facing me.

"Listen."

"NO! I will NOT listen. I'm going to find Zoey and prove she isn't dead." He tried getting past Teep.

"Rythian STOP!" I yelled. I put my hand on his shoulder and turned him towards me. His eyes were filled with tears, they were changing shades of purple faster now.

"Rythian. This is not the old world. This is a new world. You and Zoey made a castle. I planted a nuke under your base. I wasn't going to set it off. I promise. Zoey told you to leave with the animals so she could defuse the nuke. You left, while you were leaving Zoey accidentely set off the nuke. You searched for her but you couldn't find her. She died. I'm sorry Rythian but she's gone now." He looked at me. His eyes suddenely stopped changing, and his trace ended.
