The night was silent. Every night was. I layed in my tent next to my sister Cassie who pretty much has become my best friend over the past few month's. After dad died and sams was taken away we were all we had left.

The first wave took out all of our power. No lights. No electricity. Cars and planes stopped working. Phones shut down. We had Nothing. It didn't kill that many people.

The second wave was what really killed. An earthquake that shook the entire world. Causing a tsunami to consume anyone or place by a coast. We lived in Ohio so it didn't really affect us. But it still killed 6 billion people.

The 3rd wave was just as awful. An airborne plague that infected thousands. My sister, sam, and dad had natural immunity. Our mom wasn't as lucky. The red plague, we called it, took our mothers life. She was the only reason we stayed at our house which wasn't safe. So when she did die it was hard for all of us. Especially dad.

We found our way to camp ashpit. A refugee camp you could call it. There were a hundred or so people their. We were at the camp for a while. When something unexpected happened. Buses. Big yellow school buses appeared here. It was so strange because, one how did they get it running? And two it was a freaking school bus!

"Daddy are they taking us away from here?" Sam asked dad.

"I think so, sam" dad said

Then a man approached us. He announced his name as colonel Vosch. He asked us many questions. Were we all a family? Where was our mother? What was our full names? How old were we? Things like that.

"We are taking the children to a safe place" he said.

"What about the adults and elderly?" Dad asked.

"We're coming back with more buses later. Right now children are our top priority"

That made sense but it looked like there was plenty of room on the buses for most of us but back then it didn't bother me.

We walked to one of the buses to aboard. "Just the boy" said another soldier.

"What? Hell no. He's not going anywhere with out us" Cassie said. She was the more talkative one.

"They're still kids" my dad assured him. "Only 16"

The soldier shook his head. "Just him"

"He's not getting on that damn bus without me. Or her" Cassie said as she nodded her head at me.

"Girls" Dad said. "He has to go. He can't stay here. It isn't safe. And besides they're coming back with more buses to get us"

No. I shook my head. "They can't take him away. Let him stay here with us until the other buses come" Sam was starting to cry a little now.

"Annabeth. Cassie. Please. Its for the best" Dad said.

Cassie and I sighed. Then she crouched down to Sams height. "Sammy listen to me. These are good people and they're going to take you to a safe place okay?" Sam nodded and I crouched down with them.

"Can you be brave for us?" I asked him.

Sam wiped away his tears and nodded confidently. "Yeah. Here" he gave Bear to us. "He helps me when I'm scared. Maybe he can help you guys too"

I smiled at him while Cassie held his Bear. Then the three of us fell into a three person hug. After mom had died the three of us became extremely close.

After we pulled away Cassie said "I love you sams. We'll just be a few hours behind you alright?" Sam nodded again.

"I love you too sammy" I said.
