One month and fifteen days.

That's what would have taken to cover the road trip. We were more than excited to spend Christmas and New Year for the first time on road.

It took 12 hours to reach Arizona. The distance was around 520 miles and fortunately, there was less traffic comparatively. We decided to spend the night in a hotel there and leave as early as possible the very next morning. Well, that didn't work out. Only reason was - We wanted to spend the day sightseeing Arizona. We decided over three places.

Sedona. Meteor Crater. The Grand Canyon.

We were dog tired at the end but we didn't want to lose any more time. Taking few hours of nap and packing our dinner we left for our night journey. Another first.

From Grand Canyon National Park, we took the route UT 95-N and Utah was slightly more than 460 miles away.

Reaching Utah, we didn't spare a single moment of time waiting. We were aware of the rest we needed, but there was this unknowing aroma around us that didn't let us sleep or even think about sleep. Maybe it was the excitement for seeing new places or maybe it was, we thought, the last trip of our whole family together that got us all going. We knew we wouldn't get time or money to arrange for such a trip again, soon. New York is costly. Staying there with no jobs still now and feeding such a huge family without any shelter, yet. Then we needed to enrol in school too. So, at the back of our mind, we knew this might be our last trip together.

But, I didn't know, for it to be our last trip, the reason would be simply much different. Much much different.

We decided on three places to see in Utah.

Bryce Canyon National Park. Arches National Park. The Wave.

We rested the night in Utah and decided to move towards the eastern states later.

Next morning, after breakfast, we headed towards the eastern states through the Trail Ridge Road in Colorado.

After traversing through the deserts and wilderness of the western states for quite few days, it was time to visit some great cities of the USA. And we decided on Chicago. Through the Trail Ridge Road in Colorado, we took I-80 E route all the way to Chicago. The distance was roughly around 1,047 miles and it took an entire day to reach Chicago.

Two places we visited.

Lake Michigan. John Hancock Center.

And that's when we decided to spend our Christmas here.
