"Well look who got out of her hospital bed," I whipped my head up to see Niall strutting into the room with a grin on his face and his tongue in his cheek. I looked out at the bed that I was once again was sitting on as I grunted. "We're all excited for you to come back tomorrow," Niall said, sitting beside me on the bed. I had had my last tests done that morning and the results were going be coming in the next morning... even though I knew what they were going to be.
"I'm excited too," I said, giving a hopeful smile.
"I guess this is a bad time," I whirled my head around to see an awkward looking Daniel standing in the doorway. His gaze was buried in the floor as he bit the side of his lip in disappointment.
"Yeah mate, see ya," Niall said, raising a dismissive hand as I rolled my eyes.
"You probably don't remember, but this is Daniel. We met last year," I said, looking to Niall as I swung my body to the side of the bed and grabbed my crutches.
"Oh," Niall said as if he remembered all too well.
"Look I would love to hang out, but I think Niall's here until tomorrow when we fly to Vancouver and I can't really tell him to leave. I really appreciate you coming by though. It means so much," I whispered to Daniel after I had lead him into the hall.
"Oh. Okay," Daniel said, nodding, sounding shot. "I'm really sorry," I said, not really sure what else to say.
"Yeah no, It's fine," he said, trying to smile, kicking the ground. I turned to walk away when I heard him call me back.
"Yeah?" I asked, turning back as I was shocked to find Daniel's lips move in to kiss my cheek.
He clasped my hand as his low voice quietly invited, "In case you change your mind." I looked down at my hand that he had held for a brief minute to see a piece of paper with an address scribbled on it, but when I looked back up, Daniel was making his way down the hospital hallway, his hands stuffed his hoodie.
I returned back to my room where Niall was still sitting with his legs stretched out on the bed.
"Everything okay?" he asked cocking an eyebrow as if he didn't expect me to leave him.
"Yeah," I said, swinging my way back into the room with my crutches and sitting back down on the bed, refusing to say anything more. I pushed myself against the backboard of the bed and pressed my feet against the bottom of Niall's, looking up at his half smirk.
"Do you remember how you felt when you met Daniel?" he slowly asked me as he gazed into space as if that was an excuse not to make eye contact with me.
"What do you mean?" I asked, remembering back to that day when Niall met up with his incredibly annoying but beautiful model friend.
"Were you upset at all?" he clarified. I stared at him a little bit flabbergasted because upset didn't begin to explain how I felt when Niall chose his model friend, Annie over me.
"I remember feeling completely heartbroken that day," I said as harshly as possible.
"Oh," Niall murmured, "But you don't remember why?" he asked as I slowly shook my head. "So you remember every emotion and event, you just don't remember me," he stated with levels of sadness in his voice.
"I guess," I quietly said, into my lap. "What did you do that day?" I asked, seeing if he would fess up.
"It wasn't a big deal. It was stupid and I didn't even know that it was upsetting you. I don't want you to worry about it," he said.
