Love Results in Death

The calm waves were the only sound surrounding us. The sunset memorized me as I gazed at it from the shoreline. From where we stood we had a perfect view ranging from orange to pinks painting the sky with their beauty. Everything was perfect; however nothing is ever how it seems to be. Mason breaks me from my thoughts reminding me he was here as well.

"Erica, I can't wait to give you this...it may perhaps be too late..."

"Mason, what do you mean?" I question becoming concerned immediately.

"Erica...I don't know that I will be able to stop this...I love you so much, butterfly. One day I will show you the endless love I have for you once we become one...but I don't want to rush you into the process. You're the most beautiful, amazing girl in this entire world. You're the only girl I see even when I'm surrounded in a large crowd. Tomorrow will be our fourth year anniversary but I'm not quite sure I can't wait until then."

I watch him carefully as he slips out a small, black box. He slowly opens it revealing a stunning, silver necklace. Inside the diamond heart a light blue stone, and white stone was secured. The stones happened to be both of our birth stones.

"It's g-gorgeous." I stare at it in admiration. I gaps once the cold chain brushes against my skin, which Mason had already connected around my neck.

"Erica, you are the most beautiful thing to me...you mean the world to me. You are my life ...I will do anything to protect you even if it means risking myself. "

"Thank you, Mason...I love it. I'm never gonna take it off."

"Your very welcome, butterfly."

I wrap my arms around his neck while he wraps his arms around my waist. Our bodies had no distance between them as he held me pressed to his chest.

"You're so gorgeous." He leans in slowly letting his lips brush against mine as he teased me. Finally, our lips collide in a slow, passionate kiss.

Our relationship wasn't based off of lust but instead the love we had for one another. "It's getting dark...your father isn't going to be pleased if I don't get you home soon."

"I only want you. I only need you." I reply in a whisper.

"Butterfly, I don't want anything to happen to you between your father and you. Let's get you home, Erica."

"But why?" I pout childishly. He chuckles before kissing my forehead lightly. "How did I happen to be so lucky to have you in my life?" He smiles down at me with endearment. I sigh in defeat as he pulls me from behind to the car parked nearby. We both quickly get inside while waiting for Mason to start the engine. Finally, I hear it roar to life causing me to flinch in response. His knuckles turn white as he grips the steering wheel harder. I continue to stare at him attempting to figure out what has changed in him. He still had the same stormy blue eyes, and brown wavy hair, however something about him was different. We arrive to my house quicker than I was expecting to. I study Mason's face as he leaves his side to open to the door for me. I slowly get out and let Mason lace our fingers together as he walk me to my front door. My father shoots Mason a deadly glare from where he was standing. He stares at the both of us with determination to break us apart.

"Bye, Butterfly."

"Mason, please don't leave. Don't leave." A single tear slips down my cheek but Mason quickly wipes it away with his thumb.

"No, butterfly. Don't cry. I'll be back." He extends his arms out which I gratefully enter. He embraces me tightly as if I would slip away at any moment.
