During A Test

An eerie silence in which a penny could be dropped,
The steady rhythm of pencils on the table top,
The silence breaking chair scraping on the floor,
The occasional person going out the back door,

The quiet footsteps of the teacher walking by,
The test is for you to be truthful and not lie,
Teenagers are getting ready to go,
Interrupting the peaceful silent flow,

Kids leaving with a pass,
To go to use the restroom or just get out of class,
The tests going where they belong,
As the kids wait for the bell to ding its dong,

Binders being opened and closed,
The occasional kid who was done arose,
The teacher watching for talkers and cheaters,
Some finished kids read because they are readers,

So if you step into this class that is silent,
You'll find it peaceful and not at all violent,
When you are in here please be as quiet as a mouse,
Because you can be loud when you are back at your house.
