Hey, it's me.
Damn, I can already feel how tough it'll be for me to write this book, and I haven't even written 30 words yet. As I'm writing this, you're sitting on my lap and looking up at me, likely wondering what the hell I'm doing. The aroma of your mom's freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies is in the air, blending in immaculately with the remarkable voice of Adele. Despite the fact that I dislike most mainstream artists of today, I hope that Adele is still around when you're reading this. Listen to some of her old albums when you get the chance, I guarantee you'll like them.
As my fingers grace the edges of the mechanical keys, I'm realizing how important it is that I write this book. As a writer, I have always felt that the written word is the best way I can express myself. Writing has enabled me to grow and develop as a person, and I hope that by reading this book, you can also take something away from this story. The written word can be a powerful tool in captivating and inspiring you to tackle life's problems head on, whether that be a personal experience you're suffering through, boy troubles, or even deciding what you want to do in life.
Despite the fact that I tell you how much I love you on a daily basis, I know the impact of that is subdued. It's only been three years and you're already walking up and down the stairs by yourself. But, I would hardly expect you to remember a lot this early in your life. Thus, this book is also meant to remind you of your father, who loves you unconditionally. It's meant to remind you of my personality, my struggles, and my triumphs. How I met your mother, and how I discovered my passion for writing.
Beyond all, it is meant to show you that life is beautiful. Everything, from the people you meet, to the struggles you face, serves a greater purpose. That may seem tough to understand now, but as you grow older, you'll understand. So, as a dying wish from father to daughter, I want you to cherish life. Cherish your family, your friends, your haters and supporters. Most importantly, cherish your mother. Live life to its fullest. You're only on this Earth for a finite amount of time, so make the most of it while you're here.
I love you,
Malik McKnight
