Chapter 11

Graduation Day < One day before the ROYALTY TOUR

I stood in the mirror putting on my tie. I couldn't believe I was graduating today. Four years ago, I was walking into Howard U with no guidance no direction, and now I have meaning, I have purpose. I placed my cap on my head and smiled as I put my gown on.

Taraji walked in the door smiling from ear to ear. "Baby I'm so proud of you," she said as she wrapped her arms around my neck. She kissed my neck and I smiled. "Thanks baby," I smiled as I wrapped my arms around her waist.

I gave her a long lingering kiss on the lips. "I swear I wouldn't have got this far without you," "awe baby," she said as she pecked my lips. "Come on let's go," I said as I grabbed my phone off the night stand.

We made it down stairs and my mom, dad, Mijo, Tori, August, and Lytrell was waiting. "Dada!" Royalty said as she jumped down from my mamas arms and into mines. "Hey princess," I said as I kissed her forehead.

"You guys ready to head out?" Dad asked. "Yeah pops lets go," I said as I held Taraji's hand. "Clinton where's my purse?" Mama asked daddy. "You left it in the car J," he replied as we walked outside.

We hopped in my Sprinter as we drove to Howard U. Me and Taraji took pictures together as we made our way there. She kept kissing all over me. "Stop," I whispered in her ear. "Why baby," she pouted. "Cause you making a nigga horny," I said as we giggled.

"What y'all over there giggling about?" Daddy laughed. "They over there getting nasty," Tori laughed. "Shut up," I smirked. "That's alright, get nasty and get me some more grand babies," mama said as she kissed Royalty.

"You something else Joyce," daddy laughed. "Well shoot just cause Lytrell wanna keep her legs locked don't stop Taraji from opening hers," Mama said as me and Mijo cracked up.

"Mommy you have no filter, but shoot the way Chris been acting lately I just might get pregnant," Taraji laughed. "He been being mannish?" Momma laughed. "Beyond mannish," I chuckled. "Just like his daddy," she said. "Uh so dad you watched the Lakers game last night?" I said laughing.

"Shut up Maurice," Taraji. "Whatever Penda," I laughed. We pulled up at Howard U and everybody went to go find a good seat while I went to line up. I was so nervous and excited at the same time. I had a surprise for Taraji and the family. They didn't know that I was the Valedictorian. I his it from all of them except Mijo of course.

After we sung our song, then the principal and Vice President spoke, Then the guest speaker spoke, and the Salutatorian spoke. " And now faculty and staff, family and friends, we will have a speech from our Valedictorian, Christopher Maurice Brown," Mr. Bates said.

Everybody began cheering as I took my speech out my pocket and approached the microphone. "I know my family is going to kill me especially my mother and my wife, I didn't tell them I was the Valedictorian because I wanted to surprise them," I said

"You know it!" Taraji and momma yelled to the top of their lungs as they stood up. Everybody began to laugh. "First and foremost I would like to thank God for bringing me this far, four years ago when I stepped foot on campus, I had no sense of direction, I was lost, I had no sense of hope, I wanted to quit, I wanted to give up, but then God sent me a ray of sunshine, he sent me someone who motivated me to do better and be better, and because of her reminding to never give up on myself and God, I'm standing before you today proud to say that I am your Valedictorian," I said as I the crowd cheered.
