The Revenge and Death Of Edgar Allen Poe

Death hides behind all

It's shadow lurks and waits

And when we go to take our final breath

Our life is what Death takes

Many a time my heart has fallen

Close to Death's icy clasp

And many a time I could do nothing about it

Could do nothing to escape Death's grasp

But today as I sit by my dear mother's grave

I have a plan in mind

A plan to get revenge on Death

So he'll know the pain that I find

Then frigid, sudden, spooky

Wind caresses my cheek

My body braces up so stiff

For Death has made me meek

“Death!”calls I, “Enough pain you have caused

Today revenge is what I get

From this point on, Life shall live

And Death shall know his end.”

So with fear, with strength, with pain and hate

I struggle with Death at my best

Until one ragged tendril comes out from his shadows

And pushes me to rest

“Now young child, heed my words

Your challenge here today

Has made a mark on my mind

But Death is here to stay.”

And with his knife-like words he starts to go

But then stops once again

He turns back and adds the chilling phrase,

“Death is the beginning and the end.”

In the dreary darkness he disappears

Leaving me there alone

And with heavy thoughts and so much time

I think about his moan

Many days pass since my fight with fate

And with each day my anger grew

Like the Devil's red bull inside of me

As I think about my loved ones he slew

Now truly it was the Red Death that took them

Mothers, wife, brother, all Death seemed to borrow

They drowned in their blood so thick

As I now drown in everlasting sorrow

And so I make another plan to get my revenge

This time for my stepmother and sibling

I sit by a new pond of Death's water

Fresh crimson of murder dribbling

Then the shadows emerge

As do the fear, the guilt

And with it comes Death

In all the darkness he built

I follow my new plan
