The Demon in Love

Prologue

It was a cold night when Zeth was born, but everyone felt warm, everyone felt happy. Literally everyone from the Underworld, because Zeth after all is the son of the prince. One day, he would rule the kingdom as well, and so everyone was happy.

Demons are born like humans, they would cry at first to indicate that they were alive, and they age as well, but the ageing slows down when they reach 30. The thing about Zeth was that he didn't cry when he was born. It made his parents panic, but then he moved. He moved his arms like a child reaching for the light, but he didn't cry.

Something was wrong about this. His parents felt it. Zeth looked like a healthy demon child, but something felt off. At first, they let it be, but after a few weeks, they noticed how Zeth is slowly getting weaker. They needed help, and so they went to Cullen, the wise one of the Underworld.

"Let me hold him."

The prince, Fergus, and his wife, Sabella, handed over Zeth, and Cullen was overwhelmed with surprise and worry at the same time.

"This child. This child is dying."

Zeth's parents were shocked, but they let Cullen explain and continue.

"Sabella, you are a fallen angel. A part of you running in this child's veins is fighting a part of Fergus. He is both an angel and a demon, but more on the demon side."

Sabella couldn't help but think that this was her fault, and she felt really sad, but then Zeth can still be saved.

"But the more these two forces fight inside him, the more his life is being eaten away. Only one thing can put a stop to the angel and demon forces inside of him, and that is the force of human life."

Fergus was willing to steal any human's life just to keep his son alive, and Sabella was willing too, but she didn't want to steal away a human's chance to live.

"Sabella, child." Cullen whispered.

"The fighting forces inside Zeth. They haven't eaten up all his life. We just need half a life of a human. Just enough to keep Zeth's life whole. It will not kill the human child. The human shall live, but would die earlier. Nevertheless, the human lives."

Sabella was relieved, but still sad for they needed to half a human's life, but that was enough, she thought.

"What are the consequences?" asked Fergus.

"Zeth's decisions and actions in the future. They would affect the human's life. The human's decisions and actions, they would affect Zeth's life, but faintly."

"We accept the consequences, just please, help our child!" Sabella begged as tears fell from her eyes.

She was an angel once, and goodness stayed in her heart, so knowing how this decision of theirs would completely change the life of one innocent human, she felt bad, but she was desperate. She  would do anything for Zeth, and she was thankful for the human that they would take half a life from.

They needed an innocent soul, one that's not yet tainted by human sins. Cullen chose the one that was born the exact moment they decided to save Zeth. The human that was born that moment is Sarah. She cried, like a normal baby should, and she got half of her life taken from her unconsciously, then passed down to Zeth.

Zeth suddenly regained color and broke out into a smile. The relief in his baby face was evident, even if he wasn't aware of the dangers he was facing before.

"It's all in peace, the forces inside him." Cullen told Fergus and Sabella.

"Thank you, Wise man." Fergus said before they left with a healthy and very much alive Zeth on their arms.
