A boy of about 7 years ran about in his lavish lawn, chasing his golden retriever Dodo, playing with him.
That's when he saw her. Her car had just stopped at the bungalow opposite to theirs. She got down the car, flipping her long black hair and looked at him. Being kids they didn't realize that unreal feeling. It was something unsaid and unheard of for them. A smile hailed on their faces when they saw each other. The moment froze their and the air conveyed the warmth of their heart to each other. Destiny had started playing its role and made them meet. Yes! It was destiny but what came next was fate.
"Manik! Come inside and have your breakfast! I have a meeting in an hour." His mom, Nyonika Malhotra shouted from the door. "Yes mom! Coming!" "Dodo come fast or else Mom will scold me again!" Giving a last look to the girl , Manik went inside with his dog.
After a few months..
The boy came out of his garage riding his bike(cycle) and stopped beside the girl. "Race you to the school Nandini Murthy!", said the boy. "Bring it on Mr Monster Malhotra!" said Nandini, as they cycled their way to their school.
Nandini's friends, Megha and Aarav came running to her as Manik and Nandini were parking their bicycles at the stands. "Nandu!! Come with us quick!" they said as they took her with them to the class. "What is it guys?"said Nandini, confused. "Do you know what Sam said to Aarav today morning?! He said that he will marry you when he grows up." "What! But I don't want to marry Sam! He is a bad boy!"said Nandini as she stormed out of the classroom taking her little steps towards Sam, her classmate. "Sam! I don't want to marry you okay!"said a puffed-cheeked Nandini "But I will!"said Sam showing his authority over her. Manik heard all this and boiled with anger. He, with an angry face replied, "Listen! Nandini will not marry you okay! And if you bother her one more time, you'll have to face me! So stay away from her!"yelled Manik, as he came with his gang towards Sam. Sam, teary-eyed and scared out of his wits already, ran away as fast as he could. Manik turned to Nandini and they smiled at each other, giving each other a high five.
These few months had brought these new neighbors very close and their families closer. Their dads had become thick friends and now Manik and Nandini both went to the same school, same music classes and played together. They shared their secrets, laughed together, cried together and most importantly stayed together no matter whatever happened!
While Nandini was a very sincere, disciplined and responsible girl, Manik was her literal counterpart. He was the most mischievous, bindass kind of a person. The only thing common in them was their friendship and their love for music. But as it is said, every beginning has an end. Manik and Nandini too faced this end.
Nandini's dad got an offer of a job in the USA and he decided to accept it.
As a token of good bye, the Malhotra's decided to invite Murthy's at their place.
"Manik beta, I think the Murthy's are here. Come down for lunch!" Raj Malhotra called Manik. Manik ran, getting down two steps at a time, on getting the news. As he came down, he saw Nandini, clutching her Mom's fingers. Both Manik and Nandini were sad. Their sadness didn't go unnoticed by their parents." Umm... Manik! Why don't you and Nandu go play in the backyard?!"said Nyonika as the elders sat down on the couches in the living room. "Sure mom"said Manik as he and Nandini went out in the backyard and sat on the grass. After a few minutes of silence, Nandini finally spoke, with tears in her eyes "Manik, don't have bicycle races with any other friend of yours, okay?" "Never ever! " Nandini noticed the sadness in Manik's eyes. " I will come Manik, one day... USA is not that far!" Nandini consoled manik with her all time chirpy voice." Promise me you will come back" Manik was still not convinced with her answers. "Haan baba! Nandini promise..I will be back!"
Nandini again assured him.
Nyonika- Chalo andar aao !!! It's time for lunch!!
Manik- You still cannot beat me !!
Nandini- Lets see!
Both of them raced to the dinning table and as always Manik won, leaving a cute angry pout on Nandini's face, while she crossed her hands over her chest.
These moments were priceless for them and they would be much more valuable once they turned into memories. As children they didn't realized that but the separation made them realize each other's importance in each others lives later on.
That was their last conversation. There were paths for them that were already destined, waiting to be followed, to be marked and to be walked on together, forever. ❤
