Next morning at Malhotra Mansion-

Manik sleeping peacefully on his stomach, opened his eyes a little, disturbed by his phone ringing. He grabbed it and answered the call without looking at the caller ID.
"Hello?"
"Manik, we are coming over. Remember the jamming starts at 10?" spoke Cabir.
"Hmm." managed Manik sleepily.
"Bro, you better get up. Mukti is with us. You don't want to be woken up by..." said Cabir, before Manik hung up on him and drifted off to his dreamland again.
"Hello? Hello? Manik..? Uff." sighed Cabir, looking back at a furious Mukti.
Aliya and Dhruv chuckled seeing her.

"What the...?" yelled Manik, as a bucket of cold water with a few ice cubes in it was downed upon him.
"Thode aur ice cubes daalne chahiye the! Saale, mujhe subah 7 baje call karke bolta hai jamming ke liye ready rahu and khud firse so gaya?!" said an exasperated Mukti.
"Woh kiya tabhi toh tu yahan hai, warna sori hoti abhi tak." said Manik, grinning at her, giving Cabir a high five.
"What! 'God! You are unbelievable." Mukti said, throwing her hands up in defeat.
"Buddy go freshen up first. Tab tak we'll set the instruments up." said Dhruv, passing him his towel.
Saying this the other four left for the jam room while Manik went to take a shower.

At the Murthy Villa -

"Oh for God's sake Nandini! It's like I've been talking to the walls all this while. Alright. For the last time, I want this cup of milk empty by the time I come back to your room." Mrs. Murthy warned Nandini while Nandini, all intimidated by the warning, quickly got up and emptied the milk into her tummy, not wanting to face her wrath.
Getting back to what she was doing, there she sat, sorting through the pictures, rather memories that she wanted to put up on her clipboard, just when she came across this one picture and a sad smile crept up on her face.

A year back-

It was Halloween. Tinker Bell hurriedly ran over to the next house, only to find an anxious Elsa waiting for her on the porch.
"Nandini! Itni jaldi kaise? I mean I thought party khatam hone ke baad jaane waale the hum!
Nandini rolling her eyes at her drama queen of a best friend said, "Shut up Vaani. Nautanki band kar. Come on now let's gooo!".
Just as they were excitedly moving towards the car, a woman probably in her 40's, came out of the house with a camera in her hand and stood at the door, "Girls, turn around for a quick picture!"
Both of them turned and posed cheekily for the camera, and drove off.

Writer's POV.

As soon as she felt a familiar hand on her shoulder, Nandini let go of the reigns of her emotions and broke down while her mother rubbed her back, a little relieved to see Nandini finally letting out the emotions she had bottled up for all these months.
She wept for a while and when finally she was calm, she picked up the same picture and showed it to her Mom, who lovingly ran her fingers over the picture, smiling sadly.
"Mom?" said Nandini, wiping the remainder of her tears.
"Hmm?"
"You know Vaani hamesha kehti thi, that at every moment of our lives, we all have one foot in a fairy tale and the other in the abyss. So however complicated our lives would be, however long the distance between us be, and however mad at each other we'd be, we would always find a way back to each other.
And Maa, I know you won't believe what I say next, but..." she paused to take a deep breath.
"But?" asked her mom, squinting her eyes.
"But I cannot believe what the cops have to say about her suicide note, Maa. Now that I have been thinking about it with a clear head, it makes no sense to me."
"Nandu, beta what's wrong? Why would you say that?" asked her Mom in a low voice, preparing herself for what was coming next.
"Because... because I don't think she is gone." finished Nandini, with hesitation in her voice.

Oooh. Who's Vaani? Did she really do what the cops say she did? What's going on?
