it's nathan.
i stare at him in disbelief.
"you didn't have to do that you know," i tell him.
liberty walks away to go sit with max.
"i know." he smiles.
"well thanks" i start to walk away.
"wait!" he says and stops me.
"huh?"
"i wanted to ask you something." he says
he doesn't say anything else.
"well?"
"oh yeah, well um, i was going to ask" he stutters a bit. it's cute. "if you wou-" he gets interrupted by some kid our age.
"hey mate" he says with a smile. he has kind of wavy hair as it curls at the ends. it's a bit poofy. people might mistake it for 'curls'. he's really attractive. but not my type.
"uh, hey harry." nathan sighs.
"well i'm going to go now" i give them both a small wave and walk away. 'harry' smiles at me.
-
nathan's point of view-
i watch natalie walk away to a table where liberty and a bald headed dude are sitting. i can't see his face though.
"what was that for?!" i harshly whisper. i slap him on the arm.
"ow" he rubs where i slapped him. "what do you mean?"
"i was going to ask her out!" im still whispering. i don't want anyone to hear us.
"well how am i suppose to know that?!" harry yells quietly. "im no mind reader you know"
"shut up" i snap
"jeez" harry says defensively "you know she won't go out with you if she finds out what you did last summer"
i know exactly what he's talking about.
and he's right.
-
natalie's point of view-
we all grab our food and head back to our table.
i'm laughing with liberty and max as i recognize nathan and harry sit at the table across from us. i think that's his name. i mean nathan did say 'hey harry'.
i catch nathan staring at me. it gets very uncomfortable and i try to focus on max. liberty nudges me and whispers in my ear
"hey, that kid with nathan is cute." she says
i was about to reply, but max cuts in, "no secrets." he teases.
"can i tell him?" i ask liberty.
she looks like she's thinking and says "sure".
"she finds someone cute."
max almost chokes.
i start laughing even though it's kind of mean.
"what's wrong?" i chortle.
"when did she ever find interest in boys?" he wipes his mouth while coughing and points to liberty.
she huffs and rolls her eyes.
"i don't know." i chuckle. "and liberty," i turn to her "his name is harry"
"how do you know?" she asks.
"because nathan was about to ask me out, i think, and harry butted in before nathan could finish his sentence." i pause "and nathan said 'hey harry' so yeah"
"ohh." she says and looks over at harry. he's wearing our school's soccer uniform. i wonder if he's going to enroll to our school next week.
"who's nathan?" max throws a french fry in his mouth.
"uh, this kid that goes to our school." i respond.
"nathan who?" he asks before he drinks his soda.
"sykes. why?" i point to where nathan is.
max turns to look and spits his drink out and liberty cracks up.
"him?!" he pointed at nathan in shock.
"yeah?" i say in confusion. what's wrong with him? "why?" i look over at nathan. i see him glare at max and scowls.
max looks nervous. "i go-got to go" he stutters. what? he gathers his stuff and says he'll catch us later and starts to run out of the place.
"wait!" i try to keep up with him.
he turns around and faces me, "listen, i have to go." he says sternly. whoa. "natalie, be careful" he begins "he's not who you think he is" huh?
"but we need a.." i trail off chasing after him. we're already outside and we need a ride back! but it's too late. he's too fast as he's already on the road. i'm having a hard time breathing as i grab my inhaler. phew. it's a good thing i bring this everywhere i go.
i walk back to find liberty talking to harry and nathan. nathan's just sitting there looking annoyed as liberty is giggling. harry's just smiling.
i dont hesitate as i grab her arm and yank her out of her chair.
"why?" she sounds annoyed.
"max left and we have no ride." i say "we have to go" i try to sound as urgent as possible. i'm kind of scared now because max is never scared of people. but what happened just now, he seemed pretty frightened.
"why now?" she sounded like she wants to stay.
"i'll explain later." i tell her. she nods follows me out the door.
-
it's been half an hour since i explain what happened with max to her and we're standing outside like hobos. we haven't seen harry or nathan exit the place, which means they're still inside.
"hey genius" liberty says "how do we get home?"
"i don't know." i groan. it's hot outside too. ugh summer. good thing fall's coming soon.
we both sit on the curb waiting for a rescue that would never happen.
"why don't you call kelsey?" liberty says "i'm sure she'll find us a ride"
"can't" i take out my phone from my pocket. "the battery's dead" and she doesn't have a phone, so this makes it all better.
we're still sitting there as i encounter a car park near us. four guys climb out laughing. two climb out from the back. as another two get out of the front. there's a blonde guy that comes out of the driver's side. it's obvious he bleached his hair. they look like our age or older.
"look" i whisper. i imply to the blonde one as he's holding keys to the car.
"what about him?" liberty asks.
"he's our ride!" i get up and advance towards him.
i hear liberty having second thoughts from behind but ignore her.
i walk past the blonde one quickly, as i grab his arm to pull him away from his group of friends. but they dont seem to notice.
"you're driving us home" i demand.
he looks afraid and confused.
"we need a ride" liberty noted.
he looks amused and walks to his car. i'm baffled at his calm reaction. liberty shrugs and we enter the vehicle.
[a/n: i hope you guys like it so far. it's a bit confusing i know. i mean if i read it without knowing what's going to happen, i would probably be confused. haha. ok, well bye xx
