Chapter 8

It's not a good morning for me. Knowing that I woke up with a chant in my head that Nick Miuccio made a bet with me. It's such a stupid game where I'm also dumb enough to play along. If I withdraw now I'd be a laughing stock and my reputation as the girl who doesn't give a flying fuck for Miuccio would be ruined. And if I'd back out now, I would hear “Loser” coming out from Nick's mouth.

This is ridiculous.

I groaned and packed my stuff from my table and stood as the bell rings. It has been weeks since I feel daggers cutting through my back when the students in the school found out about us dating. We haven't gone on an actual date yet, we usually sat together during lunch and feed each other in a grossly romantic way which I find annoying, also Nick had to announce it through his facebook status and twitter. I don't even have twitter.

I swam in the sea of people trying to find my way out of the suffocating area. As the crowd slowly dissipate, students (or girls) in their lockers across from mine are staring, more like glaring at me. And it doesn't take rocket science to know why. I found Miuccio standing by my locker. Oh great.

“What the hell are you doing here?” I inquired, irritated.

He chuckled and squeezed my cheeks and kissed my forehead. “Reminding you that we're dating now, and that little bet we talked about.” he winked.

I groaned, “Oh god.”

He slings his arm around me and pulls me closer, “That's right baby, and I know what to do on our first date as a couple.”

Creepy jealous eyes are on us, glaring like there's no tomorrow.

I freed myself from him. He just loves some PDA action. And I for one cannot stand attention. “Can we just not.”

“We have to.” I snorted at his response. “What's the purpose of our bet if we don't go out right?” I looked at him with that knowing smile.

“I really hate you.”

“Oh you will love me.” I still continued to narrow my eyes at him.

I broke contact when I noticed Alec waving at me with Lara plodding behind her, “Raina!”

“Alec! Lara!” Alec got a really sad look and Lara's face is just a huge question mark. I have this gut feeling that something is up, “Hey. What's going on?”

“Come with me.” she urged me.

I turned to Nick and told him, “Be right back.”

“I'll be in our next class.”

I nodded, but then he pulled me and cupped my cheeks. I glared at him, although my heart beats two times faster, which is really weird. “Don't even think about–” he kissed my forehead and my nose, I groaned, “Unbelievable.”

He released me and chuckled. “Bye, baby!”

My friends put on a teasing look as I got pulled by Alec. “Don't.” I growled.

He's really good at this game. Well played Nicholas.

“Are you sure it's okay to talk in here?” I inquired, not sure why we decided to talk in the restroom.

“The stalls are clear.” Lara said. We both nodded.

I scrutinized Alec. She has been acting strange and I knew there is something up.

“What's up, Alec.” she started to cry, Lara's eyes widened. She rubbed her back, but I continued to look at her. Joey couldn't dump her. They were so into each other. “Hey, hey ssshh. What happened?”

Instead of verbally answering us. She gave a small stick device that has two lines popping out.

Somehow my breathing stopped.

“What the...”

“You're pregnant?” Lara blurted the obvious.

She nodded and wiped her tears, “I found out this morning. I have been feeling weird lately, and Lara told me that I'm probably going through hormonal changes. And I thought it's just my period. When I checked my calendar I'm fifteen days delayed.”

“Oh my god. Does Joey know?” Lara inquired.

“He doesn't have to know!”

“Alec, you have to tell him! Sooner or later your belly would be bulging and he has to know he's the father! It's his responsibility!” I fired.

“Raina, it's also my responsibility!”

I took in a deep breath to extend my patience. “Alec, listen to me. Tell Joey about the baby, he has the right to know.”

“I can't, Rain. I can't ruin his reputation in school.”

I rose my eyebrows at what I just heard, “That's the stupidest thing I ever heard in my entire life.”

“Excuse me?”

“Please use your brain, Alec. It's just some school reputation. It's not like he's married and you're the mistress and you got pregnant.” she just looked at me, listening. While Lara keeps on rubbing her back. “It's not your fault Alec. You both– took responsibility on this heavenly gift.”

“I just don't want to ruin his life because he chose me.” she shook her head.

I held her chin up and wiped her tears. “Alec. If Joey truly loves you, then he would be happy if he finds out. And his life wouldn't be ruined, this would be another blessing for him.”

“Raina is right, Alec. If he truly loves you then the baby would be an additional happiness to his life. If he doesn't love you, then I guess you were just a weekend fling.” I nudged her elbow. It was going smoothly and Lara just had to say something discouraging.

“Ignore her last sentence.” I saw her crack a small smile, “But seriously, you understand now?”

“Yes, Raina.” I gave her my hanky.

“Calm down and let's get out of here, okay?”

“I'm just glad you guys are here with me.” she hugged us both.

See, this is why I hate the Miuccio's. They're all nothing but trouble.
