Chapter 4
-
I awoke the next day to the sound of pots and pans being banged together. I got up out of my bed and went downstairs to the kitchen to see what my mom was up too.
"Good morning hun. How was your sleep?" She said brightly. "I'm trying to find the coffee mugs. Do you remember what box we put them in?" She asked me
I walked over to my mother. If she got any closer to the box it would have bit her ass off. I opened the only box on the island and pulled out her favourite coffee mug. "Here" I said, handing it to her and grabbing my own.
"I don't know what I would do without you here to keep me sane." My mom said, messing up my already tangled hair.
"MOM!" I yelled
"What?"
"Why did you just make my hair worse? Do you know how hard this is going to be to brush out?" I said
"Not very hard sweetie. Just get in the shower and use conditioner."
"Bye mom." I said. Taking my mug of coffee upstairs with me.

After I had a shower I decided to go for a swim in the pool. Well...not really a swim. More of a float actually. Mom bought this blow up raft. So I decided to try it out. So, I put on one of my very few bikinis and went out to the pool with a towel and sunscreen.
"Taylor?" Mom called out
"What?"
"I'm going to the mall, I should be home soon. Don't let anyone in the house and keep the doors locked and don't go anywhere!"
"Kay mom. I'm fine." I called back.
I heard the car pulling out of the drive way.
"Finally alone..." I said, closing my eyes and relaxing. Everything was fine until there was a small splash in the pool. I jerked my head up as fast as I could to see that there was a bright orange volleyball floating in my pool.
"Hey you!" A guy on the other side of the fence called out.
I looked over at him. "Is this yours?" I asked.
"No shit. Throw it back over." He said.
Well then. Rude people in this place. Fuck sakes. So I grabbed the ball, got off my raft and went to the side of the yard opposite of the attractive guy that threw the volleyball into my pool.
"Dude, your crazy. Just throw it back over to us. You won't make the throw from all the way over....." They attractive guy trailed off as I over hand served the ball.
"I'll have you know, I was team captain on the team at my old school, and I was on the waiting list to be in the summer Olympics." I said. Walking over to the guy on the other side of the fence. "So don't judge people before you know about them." I said. Putting my sunglasses back down over my bright blue eyes and walking back over to the pool. I put on more sunscreen and climbed back on the raft. All while this guy was watching me.
"Take a picture, it'll last longer." I said.
"Sorry I was wondering uhhh... If you wanted to be on our team for a mixed volleyball tournament next Friday?" He asked.
"Sure.. I guess." I said.
"Well, what's your name?" He asked me. I climbed off the raft again and walked over to him.
"Taylor, Taylor Burn. I just moved here yesterday." I said, already liking this boy.
"I'm Jared. Jared Bennett. So, you just moved here huh?" He asked
"Yeah. Got here yesterday." I said.
"So, umm..how about you come over for supper tonight?"
"Excuse me?" I said
"Well, seems your new here I thought I'd be nice and start a friendship with you. And I'm asking you to come over to my house for supper." He said.
Wow this guy is cocky. "We'll see what happens." I said.
"You should come over now actually, and show my friends over here how good you are. We're having a game of ball over here now and I need a team mate. Wanna join?" He asked.
"Sure. I'll be right over. Just let me go get my shorts." I said walking away to my house.
"I'll wait here." He said laughing
I walked into the house and hopped into my shorts and put on the flip flops. When I went back into the back yard there was a gate opened. I walked over to the neighbouring yard. And sure enough there was Jared and two other boys.
"Damn! Look at the girl Jared got!" One of them said. The other boy whipped his head over and checked me out. Making me kind of uncomfortable.
"Holy shit." The other guy said.
"Taylor! Your here! Said Jared. Coming outside from the back door.
"Jared man, you've got a girl." Said the taller and skinnier one of the two boys.
"She's gonna help me kick your asses." Jared said
"Oh yeah?" Said the shorter dark haired boy.
"Yeah. I am actually." I said.
"Well, lets get started. I'm James by the way." Said the dark haired one
"Yeah and I'm Nick" said the tall one
"Taylor." I said picking up the ball "who serves first?" I asked. Looking at the three boys watching me.
"Uhhh...Your team." Nick hesitated
"Okay." I said walking back to the fence and throwing up the ball and hitting it as hard as I could. Both of the boys moved out of the way.
"What the fuck?!" James said. I laughed.

We had a good game of volleyball. Me and Jared won 15-5.
"Well, you proved us wrong. Sorry for doubting you volleyball master" nick said, bowing at my feet
"Hahaha no worries," I said giving Jared a high five "we done pretty good don't ya think?" I asked
"Hell yeah!" Jared said
"Taylor?" My mom called out from the other side of the fence
"Over here mom! I'll be right there!" I called back.
"Sorry guys, that's my mom. Gotta go," I said walking over to the gate
"Hey Taylor! Wait!" Jared said, following me to the gate
"Can I uhh... Can I have your number? So I can text you sometime. Like later, to see if your coming over for dinner tonight.." Jared said. Clearly, this guy doesn't know what to say around me.
"Sure, get me a pen?" I said. Jared ran into his house to grab a pen.
"Here," Jared said. Handing me the pen. I took the pen and carefully wrote my cell phone number down on his arm.
"Thanks" he said. And that was when I really got a good look at him. Tall, strong build, tan skin. Bright brown eyes, and messy soft brown hair. This guy is strangely perfect.
"So I'll see you around?" I said. Slightly at a loss of words.
"Yeah, if your coming over just text me. I'll come and get you." He said. Putting his hand up behind his neck. That's so fucking sexy.
"Yeah. See you around." He said. Walking back into his house. Leaving me dumbfounded beside the gate.
Well then...this is already off to a good start.
