Chapter 15: A Push to Disaster
In a story, the protagonist will always come across unforeseen obstacles. If I was the main character of my next big novel, how would I overcome those challenges? The first time, I didn't know what to predict.
How am I going to explain myself to them? How am I going to tell them about the book? How am I going to tell them about what's happening now? Questions like these started to rush inside my skull, moving so fast that I felt that the world was actually spinning. The room felt as if it was getting smaller and the air felt so thin that I thought I wasn't able to get enough of it.
"Mom? Dad?" I called out, waiting for what was awaited for me. Their answer. Waiting for them to respond to me calling them made bumps form on my arms. They didn't say anything. My eyes were on the brown wooden floor and it seemed the easiest thing to do at the moment.
They didn't hear me. I don't know if they were listening or if they were trying to process everything at the moment. I knew exactly how it felt to have that video for the first time and seeing it play back to you made it feel all the more real.
I glanced up and still saw their backs. But then, I could feel the room getting smaller as the tension kept getting stronger as they turned around. Immediately, I put my head down before they could say anything, but I think that was a bad idea because it made me seem guilty.
I tried to ignore them and tried to head out of the kitchen. But my mom's next words put me at a full halt.
"Kat, what's this?" my mom started questioning.
Take a deep breath. Inhale, exhale.
"Well..." I started to begin my words but wasn't sure exactly how to form them. It was like I was tongue-tied. Words incinerated as they tried to leave my lips. It was not until suddenly I heard Tina screaming and the sound of something falling that snatched all out of attention to the direction of the noise. My mom was the first one to follow the bawl sounds of Tina. My father and I started following her from behind.
When we all arrived to the scenery of what happened, we found Tina on the fall weeping on the floor. Her leg was bent the other direction from where it usually is. My mom went to quickly call 9-1-1. While she was taking her mission to get the phone, my dad and I asked how she fell. Tina could not utter many words besides drowning in tears and screams.
She couldn't answer for how much pain she was in. My mom came back asking Tina constantly, "Are you okay?" Even though Tina was obviously not okay. All she did as a response to everything was "Ahhh!"
Ten minutes later the ambulance finally came. Sometimes, I feel that the ambulance never came to a situation at all but they were busy people with hundreds of people calling 9-1-1 for their services.
After 5 minutes of driving, we finally reached the hospital. They immediately charged into the building to find Tina a room. They asked us to stay out for a while and wait until they said it's okay.
