Hiccup wasn't a romantic guy so to speak. He tried, God knows he tried, but he just wasn't good at being romantic. His foot was eternally lodged into his mouth when it came to romance and he was fine to live his life as such. Even though everyone in his life seemed to think otherwise.
Riley, his daughter Taylors teacher and one of Hiccups better friends, insisted on setting Hiccup up on disastrous blind dates in her attempt to help. Jack, his coworker at his law firm, was equally persistent in giving romantic advice to Hiccup. Albeit his was of a more bedroom variety. His parents wanted him to find a nice girl and the rest of his family was equally badgering Every. Single. Time they saw him. The only person not dishing out love advice was his ex-wife Heather and his remaining friends Astrid and Merida. Albeit the last 2 were too wrapped up in each other to care about his love life.
Taylors excited voice pulled him from his thoughts. "Daddy! We're almost there!!!" The 7 year old squealed. Hiccup smiled, glad to know he'd made his little girl happy. After the divorce, Hiccup did every brig in his power to make his little girl happy. He'd give her the moon and he stars if she asked for them, yet she wasn't spoiled at all.
So when she'd asked for dance lessons, Hiccup had found the best dancing school in all of Burgess. The Arendale Dancing Academy. The organization was run by a Mr. and Mrs. Northern, and managed by their family. The school was open to all and by no means private, meaning Hiccup could afford it. Taylors smile brightened as they pulled up to the school, her small hands encasing Hiccups as she pulled him inside.
Elegant was the first word to pop into Hiccups mind at the school. The waiting area was all in blue and crystal. A woman with red hair greeted them. "I'm Anna, how can I help you today." "I- I called about joining. I'm Hiccup Haddock, this is Taylor." He gestured to his daughter. Taylor waved and Anna returned the gesture. "Alright, you just go through that door and you'll find the main room. They're practicing for the auditions to our winter production of The Nutcracker, so you'll have to wait a few minutes." "Thank you." Hiccup offered as Taylor pulled him to the appropriate room.
"One, two, three. Practice makes perfect. I can see you've all be practicing since last week. Rebecca, keep your toes pointed. Penelope, your center of balance is off, try to fix it before you try that move again." Elsa directed, smiling with pride at her work. The kids really were improving. Why, if things went well, it'd be the best production of The Nutcracker they'd ever given. "Ms. Elsa, can you show me that move again?" "Of course Olivia." Elsa nodded before getting into position.
Hiccup sat at the door, not wanting to interrupt the lesson. His eyes found the teacher, immediately fixating on the woman as she danced. The way she moved, like she'd done it a million times before, so easily, it was incredible. Hiccup could hardly dance without tripping over his feet. Even with a prosthetic, he still had two left feet. She finished, dismissing the girls. Taylor immediately walked into the room, going up to the woman.
"Excuse me." A soft voice interrupted Elsa as she began thinking of any candidates for Clara. She looked down, only to be met with bright green eyes. "I'm Taylor, Miss Anna said to come talk to you about joining your program." Elsa nodded, "Well Taylor, if you get your parents, I could start negotiating with them about getting you into this school. You can go to the waiting room while we talk." The girl nodded. "I'll send my Daddy in. Wait right here." She ran off and Elsa had to suppress a laugh. She'd hardly turned before hearing something fall.
"Damn it." Hiccup cursed as he stared at the fallen pile of chairs. He got to his knees, stacking them back before noticing someone had joined him. Their hands touched and Hiccup looked up, his emerald eyes meeting crystal blue ones. The teacher. Great first impression, he chided himself. "You must be Taylors father." The woman offered. "Yeah. I'm Hiccup. Hiccup Haddock." "Elsa." She introduced, continuing to set the chairs back in order. Hiccup couldn't stop looking at her, her platinum hair, her crystal eyes, she was just so. "Beautiful."
Elsa looked up. "What was that?" Damn it! Hiccup thought. "I-I mean, earlier, you dancing, it was beautiful." Elsa blushed slightly at the compliment. "Thank you." They both got back to their previous task, their hands touching as they both reached for the same chair. Elsa looked up, her cheeks tinged pink. "So, your daughter wants to come here?" "Yeah, she has her heart set on it." "Then we have much to discuss. You'll need to fill out an application, but first, I'll need your number."
Elsa was surprised at her own boldness. Hiccup turned bright red, a trait Elsa couldn't help but find endearing. "For the emergency contact, if there's an incident, I need your number for Taylor." Hiccups face reverted to normal and he let out a nervous chuckle. "Oh, of course. Here." He held out a business card. Elsa took it.
Hiccup H. Haddock
Haddock & Sons Law Firm
Below it held his contact. Elsa nodded. "Anna will give you the form, come in next week with it signed and Taylor can begin lessons here." Hiccup nodded, heading out. Elsa frowned, turning to Hiccup. "Mr. Haddock, if I may, I'd like to discuss this further. Over a cup of coffee perhaps?" Hiccup nodded. "I-I love coffee... I mean... I'd love you- TO, I'd love to. Y-Yeah, coffee sounds great." He stammered, walking out glowing red. Elsa smiled, looking at the card. She'd definitely be using it.
