Chapter Nineteen ~ Serefina
I was surprised to find that Amador hadn't come with any of his personal Guard.
"You came alone?" I asked him as soon as he led me out of the forest. He held my hand the entire time and I didn't make any move to brake the connection.
"They have all of these rules; they're hell bent on this going their way, they wanted me to let you run and then find you later. They thought that you were headed back home to your village," he said, taking a breath and then looking at me, "but I knew better. I just didn't want it to be too late when I found you."
Too late? Too late for what? He knew that I was on my way back to Kobe's manor. Maybe he thought that I was going to get myself in trouble on the way there, maybe he thought that I was going to find trouble when I arrived.
"Will you get in trouble?" I said suddenly.
"Probably," he said, looking forward, "but it hardly matters at this point."
I looked around, and saw the Palace in the distance. This must have meant that I wasn't going to see Kobe today, which made me anxious. It made me anxious every day that passed since I last saw Kobe.
"When will I go to see Kobe?" I asked.
Amador turned to look at me. He furrowed his eyebrows as though trying to understand what I just said. Finally he cautiously spoke.
"You aren't going to go to see Kobe, I will have him brought here."
I made a face.
"You want to go back to his place?"
"I just assumed."
"I'd rather he come here, I can keep an eye on him here."
I let out a scoff. Honestly, I knew Kobe better than I knew Amador and he thinks that he should be the one to 'keep an eye' on Kobe. That was rich. I broke hold of Amador's hand.
"You don't need to do that,"
"What?"
"Keep an eye on him," I said as I continued to walk toward the Palace. I heard his footsteps behind me. We walked the rest of the way back to the Palace in silence.
When we arrived we were greeted by an entourage of guards, they rushed at Amador. One of them addressed Amador directly.
"Where have you been and what were you thinking? You are going to get us fired if you keep this up. What if someone saw you? What if something happened?"
"I wouldn't have had to if you had listened to me instead of my parents," he chastised and continued walking.
"Prince, we need to talk about this, you can't keep running off like this," the guard said trying to keep his attention.
Amador turned to him, face turning red, fists clenched.
"I will do whatever I want!"
It must have been nice not needing to follow the rules that everyone else is bound to, I thought. I stood still for a moment and I watched Amador walk into the Palace. I didn't know what I was supposed to do, if I was supposed to follow him or if I should wait for the guards to take me somewhere.
Amador suddenly reappeared at the door.
"Follow me, Serefina, I want to teach you something," he said, his tone much more agreeable this time. I thought that this was strange since Daisy was already tutoring me in a number of subjects. Nonetheless, I followed him.
