“How long has he been missing?” the police officer questioned us.
“About 2 days ago. I found this note in his bedroom when I went to go apologize for my behavior the other day.”
I can’t believe he just left. I refuse to give into the fact that he’s gone, because something seems out of place. Even though he was mad at me that day, he would have told me the reason why he left.
“Ok, Ms. Harris. We’ll be on the lookout and we’ll contact his parents and inform them. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.”
Garrett and I exited the building and started to walk towards…well nowhere. Where else are you going to go when you know that your best friend has gone missing?
“Man, what has gotten into Mason lately? I mean, I’ve done some pretty dark things in my past, but I changed myself for the better,” Garrett expressed with a sorrow look in his eyes.
“I know. You’ve been laying off the drinking, right?”
“Of course. After that last incident, I swore I’d never do it again. But that girl, Olivia. WOW. She’s probably the first girl I ever saw who could drink more than five shots in less than 30 seconds.”
Olivia. Just the thought of that name engulfs me with rage.
“You know, I BET YOU THAT OLVIA HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THIS,” I yelled. I couldn’t keep the anger in any longer. “SHE WAS THE ONE WHO CREATED THE ANTI MASON AND I’M SURE AS HELL SHE WAS THE ONE WHO COULD DESTROY HIM.”
“Daph…” Garrett said, while holding my shoulders for assurance and comfort. “Calm down. It’s going to be alright. We’ll find him. Don’t worry. If anything ever happened to him, he told me to make sure you were alright, and that’s what I’m going to do, ok? I’m going to be here for you and I promise you we’ll solve this…together.”
This was a complete different side to Garrett that I’ve just heard. First Mason missing, now this? Has the world gone mad?
“Thanks.”
Although I wanted to say so much more to him and how much it makes me feel at ease that I have him, I could only utter that simple word. Right now, all I could think about was Mason.
