(Nurse's POV)
As I wheeled the girl into her new room, I thought about how she would be after she wakes up. Poor dear, she'd probably be quite crazy. Her whole family died in that crash. It was a bad crash, smashed the entire car. It was a miracle this one even made it out. I adjusted all of the various machines, checking if her breathing tube was securely resting down her throat. Satisfied, I leave her alone. She'll wake up. Hopefully.
***
(Amanda's POV)There's something in my throat. It burns. It burns. My arms sting. Where am I? My eyes are glued shut, heavy heavy heavy. I can't feel anything. Just a prickly blanket and the burning and the stinging. I hurt. Is this a dream? Dreams aren't supposed to hurt. My body seems to tighten. My throat is clogged, air scraping down my lungs and back up. Burning. I gag. I choke. I spit. But I can't move. Why can't I move? I feel so weak. With all the strength I can muster, I heave my heavy chest up and claw at the object blocking my throat. I hate it. Get it out get it OUT GET IT OUT. A feral scream rips out of my body as I rip a tube from my throat. My eyes crack open just as people flood the little room I'm in. Nurses. I'm in a hospital. They reach for me, trying to calm me down. I start to scream louder.
I don't know them. I don't know them. Get them away from me. I spit and kick and bite and scratch. Get out of MY FACE. "Amanda, clam down! It's okay, you're safe, stop fighting us!" A nurse attempts to soothe me. I hate her. QUIT TOUCHING ME, I HATE YO-
My world is swarmed with black.
***
(Nurse's POV)My breathing was rapid, I was shaking. Amanda was out of control. I had to give her the shot. She was dangerously violent. Dr. Leland had predicted she would be scared, but not violent. She would wake up soon. We should be ready, Amanda could get worse.
***
(Amanda's POV)I woke up with no tubes. All except an IV. That made me less angry. But I was still confused. As if on cue, a doctor waltzed into my room. I glared at him. Why did he put me here? "Amanda, I'm Dr. Leland. You're in Cross Hospital. You've been in a serious car wreck
Amanda, you're lucky to be alive." I was stunned. But where was my mom? My dad? My sister. "Where is my family?" I snarl. I don't trust this man. His forehead creases and he scowls. "Oh Amanda, I'm so sorry, they all died in the crash. You've been in a coma for four months."That night, I unhook my IV and started walking. I pick at my lips, ripping off the skin. I'm scared. Tears stain my checks as I creep through the dark hallways of the hospital. I peek in all the rooms, but I couldn't find my family. I thought the doctor was lying. They weren't dead. They can't be dead. I searched and searched, tearing at the skin on my face. Rip rip rip. The skin flutters down to the cold floor. Something hot and wet is on my face. I smear it away. It's all over my hands.
The last door I come to, I peer in the window. A little girl is sleeping on the bed. Angelia. My baby. My baby, baby sister. She's okay. I open the door. I sneak inside, I don't want to wake her. I curl into a ball in the corner of her room. I wanted to surprise her. Nervous, I dug my fingernails into the soft skin of my arm. "Angelia, Angelia, Angeliaaaaa," I whisper over and over. My ears started to ring, louder and louder and LOUDER AND LOUDER-
the door opened. A nurse stepped inside. "Amanda, what are you doing in here?" She sounds scared. I turned to face her, and grin. She gasps and clutches the door. "I found my sister."***
(Nurse's POV)Terror. Pure terror. I was walking to the bathroom after cleaning the sheets of a very sick patient. That's when I saw the blood. So much blood. All over the floor. Shaking, I followed the trail. To the little girl with cancer's room. A figure was crouched in the corner of the room, whispering. I recognized her. Amanda. I called out, asking her what she was doing. She turned. My stomach lurched; blood. Blood everywhere. All over her face, her arms. The skin was ripped up in chunks, her lips peeled away in a disgusting mess. Amanda giggled. She looked demonic. "I found my sister." She whispered. She pointed to the little girl. That wasn't her sister. The little girl in the bed was diagnosed with cancer three weeks ago. We had just started treatment. "No Amanda, it's not. That's not your sister. Now please, come back to your room and get cleaned up." I tried to stay clam, but when Amanda started crawling towards me, my throat let out a wheeze. She stood, her black eyes peering into mine. Then she lunged at my throat.
***
(Amanda's POV)The nurses neck is so soft. Wetness ran all over it, making it slick. I'm not sure if it was my blood or hers. She made me angry. How dare she? That was my sister on the bed. MY SISTER.
I tore into the nurses body, ripping parts away, and tugging skin. She was screaming. Screaming screaming screaming. We were on the floor, I was hitting her pretty cheekbones. Crack crack crack. Her screams went away. This soothed my mind. She was loud. There is a swimming pool underneath me. A red one. Thick and hot. The sloshing tickles my toes. The door clicks open. I snarl and turn. Someone to take me away? But I smile as my sister emerges from the room, her tiny face scrunched in fear. She's so young, so scared. I instantly smile. "Come here Angelia. Come get in the pool with me. It's okay. This bad nurse was trying to take me away. But it's alright. Come here, my sweet baby," I coo and hold my arms out. Slowly and carefully Angelia curls into my arms. I lay us both down in the pool. I kick the nurse out of the way, the pool getting wider by each second. I giggle as the liquid mattes to my scalp. Angelia starts to cry. She must be sleepy. That STUPID nurse woke her."Angelia, don't cry. Here, sleep." I crush her to my chest and she cries harder. "My name is Isabelle. Not Angelia." She breathes, just a soft whisper escaping from her lips. I smile once more. "Oh silly girl, you've forgotten your name." I rock her back in forth in the pool as she cries. She cries almost all night.
***
(Dr. Leland's POV)Security guards accompany me as I search the hallways for Amanda. Her room was empty. Only blood on her pillows and bed were left. After a few minutes of searching, we come across Amanda.
And Isabelle.
And the nurse.
Amanda is laughing and laying on the ground. She's moving her arms up and down like she's making a snow angel. Instead of snow however, she's situated in a large pool of blood. Isabelle is sobbing uncontrollably on the floor next to her. She wails when she sees us. Amanda sits up and snatches Isabelle in her arms. It takes five security guards to contain Amanda. I grab Isabelle and run like mad. Calling for more guards, I clean Isabelle up in the nearest room. My fingers are unsteady. I've never ever seen something so horrid before. "Dr. Leland, I'm scared," Isabelle whimpers as I'm scraping the blood off her tiny body. Amanda is pulled past our window. She starts hissing and screaming as soon as she sees Isabelle in my arms. They put her in a padded room.
I watch the security cameras. She whispers to herself and rips the skin of her own body. She stares and the camera and laughs. She says my name. Over and over and over again.
