Dan's POV
You probably wouldn't imagine two individuals like me and Phil being friends. I am a swearing, dirty-minded idiot who wears black on a daily basis and knows the words off by heart to the llama song. Phil, on the other side, is a fuzzy, innocent guy who couldn't hurt a fly. His wardrobe was made up of an array of bright colours and he had a soft spot for all animals. Yup, we were different, alright. But what brought us so close was the sense of empathy we had for each other; we both knew what it was like for the other being tormented for having a weird haircut and 'bad taste in music'. But that's really what made us friends. Music. We both had a passion for artists others would consider 'lame' or 'shouty'. Our friendship began when I, being an extremely awkward person, played music out loud on full volume thinking my earphones were plugged in. This caused a swarm of people to gather round me, each trying to grab my phone but of course, the bulkiest guy ever snatched it first. Yup, typically, this guy was the head of the rugby team, cauliflower ears and all. With one swift action, he wrapped a fist around each end of the phone, brought it down to his knee and snap. Yep, this guy had actually snapped my phone in half, before throwing the pieces at me, sniggering and marching off.
I was deep in thought when a tall, dark-haired figure approached me, and therefore I didn't notice he had sat down next to me against the stone wall of the hall until he gave me a slight nudge. "Shit!" I exclaimed as I was startled by his sudden touch, and to my surprise he covered his ears. Once he had made sure my lips were no longer moving he brought his hands from his years and sat them lightly on his lap. "Hi," the guy said, "sorry if that seemed weird. I'm not a big fan of cursing." And he flicked the hair out of his eyes in a way that made me shiver. "Oh, sorry, hi." I mumbled, not sure if he quite understood me. Apparently he did, because he began talking again, "I saw what just happened, I was sitting at the opposite end of the hall. That guy looked like an idiot. Anyway, I heard you playing muse and I was wondering, since I have a lot of their songs on my phone, if you'd like to listen with me?" He seemed innocent and friendly. I guess I needed someone like that in my life. "Sure, thanks!" I replied happily, and he offered me an ear bud.
Phil's POV
I couldn't believe it when I saw that guy break the kid's phone. Somehow I felt personally responsible for it, for having not gotten up and said something, but I restrained myself after looking at the stream of bruises up my forearm for previous similar attempts. When I heard him playing 'Psycho' by muse, I knew I had to at least go and sit with him. Everyone I knew thought Muse was a cereal.
So, after the idiots had backed away, I made my way over to this kid, who was apparently oblivious to the fact I was even there until I nudged his arm with my shoulder. After a quick hello, I offered him an earbud to listen to some of my music which he gladly accepted. After the song 'Supermassive black hole' had ended, I blushed when 'Teenagers' by My Chemical Romance came on, because the chances are he would find it awful. I mean he likes Muse and they are kinda similar, but it was clearly too good to be true if he likes both. Woah, I couldn't believe how much I was overthinking this, I mean, he's a stranger and I like girls, I shouldn't be trying to impress him... But he was kind of cute, though.
I quickly tugged the earbud out of his ear and apologised, ready for the mockery. "Hold up, I love that song! Do you have another class you have to get to or something?" He said, sounding disappointed. Was he joking? Did he really like MCR? "Sorry," I said, looking at the floor, "most people don't like MCR and would probably think I'm a total emo for liking them." I said. He chuckled, "Well, I guess that makes two of us then." And with that, he put the earbud back in right in time for the chorus and hummed along. Woah, his humming sounded so in-key, and I subtly removed my earbud to listen to it. When he saw my looking, both our faces turned a deep crimson. I went to pick my earbud back up, but as I did so, he put his fingers on it, too. For a brief second our hands touched, and then I looked up and awkwardly gestured his earbud lying closer to him.
Dan's POV
This guy's music was dope! I genuinely loved MCR, but he seemed a little embarrassed. And so was I, after he had noticed my humming along (badly) to Teenagers. As I turned my head to hide my blush my earbud fell out, and when I went to pick it up I got the wrong one and had an awkward hand-skim with him. One awkward apology later and we were back listening to MCR when a bloody advert came on. It turns out we had the same idea to press skip and we both turned out heads to look down at the phone lying between us, and suddenly our foreheads were touching. Not lightly, either. I thought I could feel him lean in slightly when I pulled back, willing him to skip the ad. Shit, Dan. You're straight, you don't like boys. If you could just ignore the feeling you get when you look at those big blue eyes, you could be good friends with... him. Why hadn't we introduced ourselves yet? "I didn't catch your name" I said, turning to look at him. "Oh, yeah, sorry. I'm Phil, Phil Lester. And you?" "Dan Howell."
