Don't look back, Luna.

Goosebumps spread upon her arms as she heard the panting of the creature catching up to her. In an instant, she was knocked to the ground, her knees and palms skidding across the dirt, stinging in pain. Luna's breath left her with a whoosh as the beast fell on top of her.

Can't breathe, she tried reaching for air.

She felt the weight lessen gradually, and her body was shifted to lie on her back by the clawed hands of the creature. It was changing before her, to a man with a pair of striking blue eyes that eerily gleamed in the night. His muscled bare arm was stretched beside her head, his elbow seated on the ground.

His fangs withdrew, voice distorted. "Don't run from me."

She peered back at him with wide eyes, "Please let me go. I promise I won't tell the police anything that happened tonight," begged Luna.

His inquisitive eyes sought her face, and skimmed down what he could make of her body. The back of a clawed hand brushed the dirt from her cheeks tenderly. She flinched at the contact. He growled, "Don't fear me," eyebrows furrowed in displeasure. He was strikingly handsome, no longer appeared as the beast who tackled her. His claws were gone; his nails were short and even. "I've waited many years."

Luna shook her head sideways. "You got the wrong person, I swear." Who was this man? Is he the person everyone was whispering about? Anxiety flooded her, racing thoughts and the urge to get to Leo as soon as possible.

"A Lycaon's beast is never wrong," he answered. The pad of his thumb swiped the dirt from her bottom lip. Her heart skipped a beat at his boldness. His expression held yearning as he traced her lips with his eyes. "There would be no other reason for me to catch you," he whispered beside her ear.

She shuddered from the warmth of his rough voice. A scent caught her nose. What is this sweet smell? It was intoxicating. Luna leaned forward into the crook of his neck. It was him. Her mouth watered as hunger pangs shot through her belly. She licked her lips, drawn to the smell like a moth to light. Crimson droplets glinted in the night. He was injured. Her gums itched and teeth feeling unfamiliar against her lips; the sensation dull against the hunger she felt. Tentatively, she darted out her tongue against his wet skin, mesmerized. Sweet molasses, I've reached heaven. The first drop of his nectar on her taste buds had her sighing with euphoria. More. Luna's stomach grumbled. She pressed her lips against his neck, biting down, and drank deeply.

He growled, cupping her head closer. His free hand gripped her hip. After she sucked once more, he pulled away, and raised her head with the crook of his finger. That hauntingly beautiful face told her she was about to be kissed with all the yearning she saw in his expression earlier. They slowly made eye contact. Luna saw the reflection of her glowing red irises in his pupils. He grinds his teeth, and punched at the ground beside her head, snapping twigs, roaring to the clouds. "Fate could not have been as cruel to curse me with a leech as my Mate," he gritted.
