Chapter 14: Daddy Issues

Nat continued to giggle rolling on the floor and I immediately came back to my senses that very moment. Hannah was passed out on the corner and I was losing Nat.

"What? Alex?" I said

"I just feel it he loves me back and" she said and started trailing off.

"Nat, NAT!" I said and slapped her.

"Ow! you whore you're supposed to be happy for me" she said and I dropped her.

"No.. nono, FUCK!" I said out loud. I took the bottle and climbed down the stairs.

This trip couldn't get any worse now could it? It was becoming an even bigger mess as each second passed by.

Somehow it wasn't my problem but at the same time I was wrapped in the middle of it all. I sat on the edge of the pool and brought my knees up to my chest and laid my head on top of them.

I just wanted for all this to be over. I wanted to go back to California and go back to having two normal best friends, one with a boyfriend and the other one single like me, and a brother far far away in San Francisco with his friend.

"Came out here for inspiration too?" Someone said and I quickly looked up

"Yeah.. uhh.. yeah" I said and saw Gerald sit beside me.

"You... okay?" he asked

"Not really" I said.

"Did... something happen?" he said and looked at me.

"No... just stress" I lied.

"Not really buying that" he said and I looked down at the pool.

"I'm guessing it's Natalie related because as soon as she comes into the picture things start going downhill again and again" he said.

"She's in love with Alex" I said

"What?"

"You're gonna take this all 'point for Gerald and his non marital relationship club' aren't you?" I said trying to get a laugh out of it.

"Not really I'd say it's more of a 'now you see why I'm an asshole all the time and try not to engage with sentimental stuff' thing" he said and I half smiled at his remark.

"When did you start being this way, I mean there must've been something that made you" I paused and changed the tone of my voice "turn into the dark side"

He chuckled and put his hands behind him supporting him.

"My dad actually" he said. "Mom and dad" he said and paused for a while.

"Picture perfect family but, dad was unfaithful, mom had drinking problems because of that" he said and looked up at the stars.

"My dad left my mom for this blonde bimbo and he'd only send money and visit once a month maybe, whatever, shitty childhood, story of my life. From there on, it just got clearer I mean look at Jack and Natalie" he said and I dipped the tip of my fingers into the water. "Made one for another and what? he's cheating on her and she's in love with someone else? bullshit" he said.

"I'm sorry to hear that" I said and paused for a few seconds. "Love sucks"

"Glad we're on the same page" he said putting his arm around me, I laid my head on his shoulder and we stayed there for a few minutes.
