"Thank you Lauren, enjoy your time off. See you soon." Mr. Blakeman said as I handed in my math exam.
"Bye Mr. Blakeman!" I said as I left my final high school exam ever. It felt good. No more long nights, skipping meals, or loosing sleep because of studying anymore. Or at least until I went to university.
I walked down the hallway to my locker to get my rain coat. Despite it being June, it was a gloomy day. It rained all morning while I was stuck in my exam which sucked. I loved the rain.
I got to my locker and did the combination to unlock it. I only had converse to wear as shoes so they got a little wet walking to school this morning but I didn't mind. They were still fine. I grabbed my jacket and purse, putting my pencil case and calculator inside before grabbing my phone.
I had two text messages. One from my mom and one from my best friend Joe. I checked my moms first.
Birth giver: Hi sweetie! Hope your exam is going well. Sorry to tell you but I have to go into work today again and I'll be home pretty late. Feel free to order any food if you would like it. I'll let you know if anything else happens. Love you lots!
I sighed. I miss mom when she's at work. Sometimes I think she works too hard. I answer her back.
New message: Thanks mom. Don't work too hard okay? I'll have food for you when you get home. <3
Then I checked Joe's message.
Favourite idiot <3 : I'll be in the parking lot waiting for you when you get out of hell
I smiled, closed my locker and headed for the parking lot.
~~~
Me and Joe had been friends for years. A total cliché. I moved in next door to him when we were 13. It barely took that summer for us to become friends so when I moved to a new city, started at a brand new school with brand new people he became my best and only friend. We grew up together. Childhood best friends that survived all the teasing and harassment despite being opposite genders. We practically knew everything about each other. I wouldn't trade our friendship for the world.
~~~
I ran out of the school and into the parking lot looking for Joe' car. (Well, his parents car that they let him use.) I went over to the passenger side, hoped in the car and closed the door. He was listening to Hero by Foo Fighters."Hey! Good song turn it up." I said reaching for the volume dial.
"No, no, no wait hold on a second." He said pausing the song. "Why didn't you tell me you didn't have a ride to school this morning? I would have driven you. I finished my last exam yesterday. I'm a free man with a car now."
"Okay one, it's not your car," I stated "two, we still have to graduate you're not free yet and three, I was fine. It wasn't raining that bad. Plus I like the rain. It really calmed me before my brain exploded."
He giggled a bit. "Was it that bad?"
"I was the last one out." I said a little embarrassed, covering my face with my hands in shame.
"Ohh no!" He laughed. "I knew you could do it though!" He said giving my a mini side hug from the drivers seat.
"Yeah well I'm just glad it's over now," I said sighing "But now there's Collage to think about and we have to-"
"Hey, Hey, Hey listen. We don't have to talk about it right now if you don't want to." He said with one arm still around me for comfort. "We can talk later tonight if you want to?"
"Yeah sure that would be great." I replied. "Hey do you want to hang out this afternoon since there's so more studying to do?"
"Yes absolutely what do you want to do?" He asked me pulling his arm off me and starting the car.
"Well," I thought "It's almost lunchtime and my mom said that I could order something if I wanted to so we could have pizza delivered and just play video games or watch something if that's alright with you. I might have practice tonight but I'm sure coach will say something before 4:30 when it starts, but we have lots of time before that."
"Sounds perfect." He said.
Back at Lauren's house
"Thank you!" I said handing the pizza guy his money as Joe took the food from him.
"No problem." He replied. "Enjoy."
"Will do." I said as I closed the door.
"WATCH OUT!" He yelled behind me as I braced for impact but instead having a breadstick hit the door just inches from my head.
I turned around to a laughing Joe. I couldn't help but laugh back at him. "You're an idiot." I said picked up the breadstick up off the ground tossing it lightly at him.
"But you love me." He said pointing the breadstick back at me.
"Shut up I want to watch RvB." I said turning on my laptop that was connected to our TV. "We're on season 8 which is the best one so grab your drink and bring the pizza." I said sitting on the ground.
"Alright cool it. I'm in for RvB." Joe said grabbing the food and a can off the table. "Start it up then."
Me and Joe sat down with some breadsticks, two boxes of pizza and a few cans of Root Beer watching Red vs. Blue. In my book, it's a great way to spend my last day of anything educational in high school.
