The life of an editor is pretty hectic. The job requires you to read a lot of manuscripts and fixing grammatical and spelling errors and making suggestions on how the author could make it better. Because of that, I tend to stay up late at night reading. I don't mind since I love to read but it causes me to lose a lot of sleep. So sometimes I wake up late.
Like today for instance.
I woke up an hour later than I normally do. I shot out of bed like a missile and quickly got dressed. I didn't even have time to eat so I decided to stop by Starbucks to get some coffee so I can stay awake throughout the day.
I rushed in and was immediately greeted by the wonderful coffee smell. The little shop was empty except for the barista behind the counter. I gladly walked over to the counter to place my order. I smiled at the barista and asked for a caramel macchiato when someone came into the shop.
Since no one else had placed an order before me, they were able to give me my drink before I was able to turn around.
I thanked the barista as I turned around, suddenly colliding into somebody's body. The coffee spilt all over the both of us and it felt searing hot.
"Oww!" the person I crashed into yelped.
"Oh my God!I'm so sorry! Here let me clean the mess!" I said as I stumbed around to grab some napkins. I grabbed a handful and immediately started patting the coffee off of his shirt.
"I think I know you," a familiar voice said. I looked up at him and did a double take. I just spilled coffee on Prince Royce.
"I'm so sorry Mr. Royce. I-I-I did-dn't m-mean to," I said as I stopped my failing attempt to dry his shirt. I looked down and I could hear him chuckle. I could feel my face getting hot as I went to throw away the soggy napkins. I looked down at my outfit and saw that my white blouse was stained brown.
"I can't go to work like this," I muttered under my breath. I pulled out my phone and dialed my boss Jason's number.
"Hello?" his gruff voice growled.
"Hey Jason it's me Dulce. I can't come into work today. I don't feel well," I said, plugging my nose up to sound sick.
"Eww stay home. I don't want your germs around me. Come back when you're feeling better," Jason said before he hung up. I smiled as I put my phone away. I got at least 3 days to "get better" until I go back to work.
"I'm so sorry about your shirt," a deep voice that I knew oh so well from behind me. I turned around and noticed a familiar face. I immediately looked down and smiled.
"It's not your fault. I was being clumsy," I replied. I looked up at him and smiled apologetically. When I looked up, his eyes twinkled.
"Hey," he faltered, "Aren't you that girl from the bus last night?" he asked.
"You remembered me?" I asked in disbelief. More like 'YOU NOTICED ME!?'
"Of course! When I see someone as beautiful as you, I can't help but stare and remember every inch of that face," he said as he tucked back a loose strand of hair behind my ear. I smiled as I looked away from him.
"Wow I never thought that you'd ever notice me." I bit my lip as I looked up at him.
"Can I treat you to dinner?" he asked.
"Tonight?"
"Yes. But let's break the rules a little," he said with a mischievous look on his face.
"What?" He didn't answer me, instead he took my hand and led me to a closet that's inside of Starbucks. He led me in and closed the door behind us.
"What are we doing?" I asked as soon as we were inside. Instead of getting an answer, I felt a pair of lips crash onto mine. Almost as if instinctively, I hungrily and greedily kissed him. He pressed his body against mine. I was going into crazy mode when my alarm clock woke me up.
