Nia
Heavy breaths echoing in her ears, feet pounding against the floor, sweat dripping down... places that she'd wash later. Nia was in her zone. Studying for this last final had her messed up and she just couldn't look at a textbook or screen anymore. So she picked option number one on her de-stress list: go to the gym. Going to the gym is what kept her sane, it also helped that it kept her body tight. Momma always said if you're not at your best you're not going to attract a man. That's how she got her daddy, even though if Momma was keeping him was a whole nother story. But, even when Momma was wrong she was right, so she just took her mother's advice and kept her body tight.
Slowing down she took a sip of water as she finished running two miles on the track. No matter what she did with weights for the day she always ran. Running made her feel free. As she took the steps to go to the floor that the weight room was on she thought about her workout. Not trying to debilitate herself with a leg or arm day she decided to focus on her core.
Walking out of the gym Nia threw her towel into the basket. Smiling at the worker at the front desk she briskly made her way out of the gym. Nia knew she was funky and funky and a young lady never went together. Another one of the many rules Mama had for life.
Unlocking the door and hearing giggling coming from Raeni's room Nia guessed that she was in talk to human beings mode or at least talk to her boyfriend mode. Besides the rumbling from Adair's deep voice, the bright pink ribbon on her door indicated that she had company. After walking in on one too many of Diya's trysts the girls had decided to create a system to let the others know that they had company. Nia had never used it but she was glad to be told, even if it wasn't in words, when she may have to find other places to be.
Walking out of the bathroom in her towel Nia felt clean and refreshed. She loved working out but she hated to be sweaty. Putting on a pair of leggings, a very tasteful oversized sweater, and her Ugg boots she sat and figured out her plan of attack for the last two days of finals. Sipping the cup of tea she made Nia looked at her schedule and nodded her head. She could get through this last huge final and get the grades that she needed. At least that would keep her mother from bothering her about finding a man until after Christmas.
Diya
The apartment was pretty quiet for it to be one in the afternoon. Of course Raeni was playing her music but one of us always was. Smiling and stretching in my bed I checked my phone. No missed phone calls, thank God she hated talking to dudes on the phone when all she wanted from them was a good time.
She looked at her Broadway posters before deciding to see if she should go through her text messages. Adrian's name was apart of the list of new texts that she had and she wasn't sure if she was ready to talk to him again. The last time they "broke up" it was because he was beginning to catch feelings, and if she was being honest she was too. Diya was too much of a free spirit to be tied down and college was no place for feelings, even she ever decided to get in a serious relationship. What was the point? You and a guy got together, really like each other, most likely end up in different cities, and when you're starting a career you have to think about them when you should be thinking about your growth. It just was not for her.
Getting out of her bed she looked for her robe. Her body was demanding food and her roommates weren't keen on seeing her naked body. Diya just wasn't big on clothes in general. She'd rather be free and enjoying the work of art that was her body. One of the gods up there had blessed her with it and she wasn't about to squander her gift. Being bigger definitely did not mean being ashamed and all the dudes that she ever messed with found use for the extra padding especially...A- not thinking about him.
Finding her robe she put it on and shuffled into the kitchen. She had heard Nia making tea so she knew the water in the kettle was hot. The one thing that she loved about her roommates is that they all loved tea. Drinking tea brought them together. There was always two times a week where they got together, usually before she went out somewhere, to just drink tea, talk, and laugh. If she was being honest their dorm room was her center, more than her "home" ever had been.
