"You can't take her." Edward declared instantly as soon as he saw the thought pop into Aro's head and he was instantly reaching out for Anthea. "She's my mate; you can't take her."
Aro looked at the young vampire, a sly smile making its way onto his papery, creased features. "I think the decision is up to our lovely Anthea."
Bella stood beside him, looking bewildered, one moment, she had been very content with the knowledge that her daughter was not going to be killed and that she would live with them for many years to come. But now, she was confused. What had changed so suddenly, why did Edward want her now? He couldn't. He was hers.
"I want to go home." She forced out though it felt like she was swallowing acid, the words physically burning Anthea as she spoke them. She didn't want to go. She wanted to say here. With Edward because now he knew, now he remembered. Her fire had been put out and all the memories had come back. But there wasn't much she could do. Her refusing would start up the war that had just so narrowly avoided.
"You're just saying that because you think you have no choice." Edward spat, eyes turning into golden slits as he glared at leader of the Volturi before turning his attention back to the brunette. "You have a choice Thea. Stay here. With me."
"I can't. I belong with them Edward. It's time."
"You belong with me Thea, you always have." He argued, a pleading look of longing on his perfect face.
She smiled at him. That same smile he had seen on her face just a few moments prior, when she was dying. It was one of both love and sacrifice. This was the end. But he tried to believe it wasn't when she pressed her lips tightly to his. It was probably the most selfish thing Anthea had ever done, and she had done so many selfish things. To kiss a married man whose child had just missed death. But she didn't care. She felt as though she somehow had a right to be selfish in the moment.
Anthea pulled away first, though she wished she never had to. She wished that she could have just been killed then, latched onto Edward. But she wasn't and she was being summoned to leave. To leave her angel and return to the depths of hell.
"No," She admitted, slowly shaking her head as she pulled herself away from him. "I don't. You belong with Bella and I belong with them. I'm the devil remember, and what better place for the devil then among her own kind? I love you Edward, don't forget that."
Edward opened his mouth to say something else. But the black sea was already disappearing, Anthea being swept away in it's treacherous waves.
