It's been five years since the monsters were freed from the Underground. The monsters' transition into society was not easy or complete, but it was luckily without bloodshed. However, the day that Toriel asked Frisk where she was going to go was the day that Frisk lied. She said that she had somewhere to go, but she disappeared. She had not been seen for the past five years. Her friends, although worried without any word from her, did not know what truly happened to her. They had stopped trying to call after the first few months of being ignored.

Frisk distanced herself from the ones she once called friends. She created her own life far away, and her life became something resembling normal. She got a job, finished school, and lived on her own. However, she was not happy. She desperately missed her friends, but she couldn't go back to them. She had cut them out of her life so she could be normal. There was no way they would accept her again.

Almost every night, Frisk's thoughts strayed down the same path. Did she regret her decision? She honestly wasn't sure. She was independent, sure, but she was also lonely. She had no one she could call a friend. She had no family who cared. She was alone.

Sighing, Frisk forced herself to get out of bed, make breakfast, and get ready for another boring day at work. Like always, she took too long in the shower and had to rush to catch the bus. She couldn't afford a car. She sat in an empty seat and stared out of the window. People and monsters alike were simply blurs as the bus passed them by on the way to its next stop.

As always, Frisk was tired after a long day at work. She walked slowly to the nearest coffee shop, thinking that some caffeine would wake her up. She ordered a medium black coffee and sat down at a nearby table. She sipped her coffee as she played a mindless game of Tetris on her phone.

"COME ON, BROTHER. WE CAN GET A SNACK LATER. YOU ATE AN HOUR AGO," Papyrus's voice emerged from her memories. Frisk stared at the table, ignoring her game and fighting back tears.

"it'll be quick," Sans protested. "look, there's a little cafe."

"I could go for a snack as well," Toriel said.

"HMP. FINE," Papyrus agreed. The bell on the door chimed, and Frisk looked up. She froze at the sight of three familiar monsters. They weren't just in her memories. Trying not to be obvious, she left her coffee and fled to the woman's restroom. What were they doing here?! She began to panic, but she took several deep breaths. She sat on the toilet, seat down, and put her head in her hands. What could she do? There was no telling when they would leave. She needed to take care of her dog, who she had picked up off the street out of pity.

Frisk made a decision. She would have to face them and pretend that she didn't know them. It been five years. They could have easily forgotten her. She had changed a lot in that time. She flushed and washed her hands. She left the restroom, scanning the room carefully. They were ordering drinks. She picked up her cup, which she had already paid for, and walked towards the door. Sans turned, leaning against the counter while waiting for Papyrus to order, and noticed her. His eyes went from half-closed in boredom to fully open in surprise. He looked as if he was going to speak, but she forced herself to ignore him and walk out the door briskly.

The doorbell chimed as the door shut behind her. She walked, head down and face hidden in her long hair, to the bus stop. Unfortunately, she had missed her bus. She sighed heavily and began to walk to her apartment. She huddled in her coat with her gloved hands wrapped around her quickly-cooling coffee. She walked quickly to keep warm, but it helped little against the cold wind piercing through her clothes.

Almost an hour later, Frisk arrived home. Her hands shook as she tried to put the key in the lock. Her breath created a cloud of mist from her mouth. Finally, she got the door open. Rascal, her young puppy, greeted her enthusiastically. She smiled and closed the door behind herself.
