"Anya, I'm home." The brunette calls out into the apartment. She throws her keys onto a small side table next to the door, walking over to the couch then collapsing into it.

"How was job hunting, love?" Another voice calls out from another room.

"Boring. Highly doubt I got anything. You?" She sits up to face the slim blonde girl who decides to sit next to her.

"I dropped off a résumé at Starbucks and a couple other places but," she shrugs, "I don't know."

"You'll get a call, don't worry. Personally, I'd like to see you work at Starbucks."

"Why? You want to see me in a nice green apron?" Anya smirks at the girl sitting cross-legged in front of her.

"Oh yeah." She gives her best friend an eye roll.

Anya had taken Lexa in when Lexa's parents had died in a really bad house fire. Lexa was over at Anya's at the time the fire had started, it ended up burning the entire house down with Lexa's parents inside. The two girls have known each other since Lexa was 12 and Anya was 15. Lexa always saw Anya as the older sister she never had. She offered Lexa all her support and care and just currently moved from Washington DC together to LA to get a fresh start at their lives.

Lexa unlocks her phone and sighs when she notices she only has a few Instagram likes and no messages from a certain blonde girl with piercing blue eyes that made her heart race every time she looked into them.

"Why the heavy sigh?"

"I may have ran into a girl this afternoon and may have given her my number."

"Lexa!" Lexa wasn't sure if Anya was either excited and happy for her or if she was angry. "We just moved, you couldn't, I don't know, wait 'till the boxes were empty before jumping into another relationship?"

"We came here for a new start, Anya." She replied, not completely sure why her friend seemed so unaccepting about this.

"That doesn't mean jumping into a new relationship right after.. You know." Anya began to lecture but let her words trail.

"Say it."

"Lexa, I-"

"Say it." Lexa was furious at her now. She hated when she thought that Anya could control her like this. She hated how she brought up the past after promising her, before they moved, that she wouldn't.

Anya looks down at her hands and then back up at her best friend with a serious look, "right after Costia."

Lexa scoffs and rolls her eyes even though she knew what Anya was going to say.

"Look, I'm just looking out for you Lexa. Don't you think you're maybe moving on a little too quick?"

"Costia is dead, she died nearly a year ago now. I have to move on at some point."

"So, you're going to use this new girl as what? A rebound?"

"Oh, shut up." Lexa snarled as she gets up from the couch, clearly done with Anya.

"I'm serious, Lex!" But it was too late. Lexa had flipped her the bird while walking towards her bedroom and shutting the door with a loud bang.

It was getting late and Lexa decided to skip out on the awkward dinner with Anya and unpack the rest of the boxes in her room instead. She picks up her phone from off of her night stand and plops her self down on her bed putting her hair into a messy bun. She opens up her messaging app but doesn't see any new messages. She frowns and wonders if maybe Anya was right. Maybe she was moving on a little too fast? Though, she was still upset at Anya for bringing up the past and her past girlfriend.

Lexa never got to say goodbye to Costia before she died. They were arguing and Costia ended up walking out the door of Lexa's home. It wasn't until 2 in the morning when Lexa got the devastating call that Costia had been caught in between a knife fight and was stabbed. "The doctors did all they could do to try to save her" is what one of the nurses told Lexa once her and Anya arrived at the hospital. Her knees felt weak and she had collapsed into Anya's arms after hearing the news that her girlfriend was dead. It was hard on Lexa. Costia was Lexa's first ever girlfriend and person that she's ever loved. Lexa didn't talk to Anya for weeks, almost months. Anya made a promise though, that her and Lexa were to move somewhere far from Washington and start over, start their lives over. That's what they did, but Anya did break the promise that she made which was to never bring up the past if they ever did end up moving.

"Lexa Woods!" Lexa is pulled out of her thoughts and hears the booming voice come closer towards her room.

Shit, what have I done now, she wonders.

Her door swings open and she sits up watching the angry blonde hold out the pack of cigarettes Lexa forgot to take put of her bag.

"I uh-"

"What happened to leaving the past in the past?!"

"Says you." she bites back.

"Lexa, I'm serious!"

"When are you not?" the brunette mutters under her breath and crossing her arms. "Why would you go through my bag? I don't rummage through your personal belongings!"

"That's it." The blonde walks away with the cigarettes, not giving the explanation why she went through Lexa's bag. To be honest though, Lexa left her bag wide open and the box of cigarettes were out in the open.

"Wait, Anya, where are you going?" Lexa begins to follow her into the kitchen. "Come on, give them back."

Ignoring Lexa, Anya throws the pack on the floor close to her feet and steps on the box, crushing every stick in it.

"Anya, what the hell!" Lexa was furious, Anya was walking on thin ice and Lexa had to take ever inch of nerve in her body not to hit the other girl in front of her. "I payed good money on those!"

Anya picks up the destroyed box and shoves it towards Lexa's chest, "That's your problem."

Lexa holds the box of destroyed cigarettes and grips them tight with a clenched jaw as she watches her friend storm out of the room and this time slamming her bedroom door shut.

She throws the box in the garbage under the kitchen sink and heads back to her bedroom. She lets out a small sigh and grabs her cellphone before heading to her bathroom to brush her teeth. Her eyes widen when she opens her phone saying she has a text from an unknown number. Eagerly, she unlocks her phone and reads the message.

Unknown Number: Hey, it's Clarke.
