We were returning from Cokesby after a session of shopping. We, as in my dad who was driving, my mom at his side and me in the back. My mom was reading the newspaper and telling snippets of headlines to dad who just nodded each time. I was on my cellphone texting.
It was as normal as it usually is.
I looked out once. The sun was setting. It had the colour of a yolk, all orange and startlingly bright, but still it's brightness had a soft touch.
It filled the sky and a flock of cloud with a layer of caramel -like light.
I could see a lone bird, possibly a crane, traverse the curve of the earth to go home just like us.Just then my father called,"Diante."
"Yes?" I didn't like his tone.
He turned towards mom and said, "Your mother wants to tell you something important."
"Dimples dear, I have a very good news for you! You will be so happy."
A scowl crossed my face. I hated it when she called me 'Dimples'. What if I have dimples? It's not so prominent anyway. "What is it, mom?" I said darkly.
"Do you like the apartment in Cokesby?"
I did. So I said so.
"The good news is.. We are moving here!"
My cellphone slipped and fell from my hands. Hands that were then shaking.
"What happened Dimples?"
I could barely control my tears who were threateningly close to spilling from my eyes.
"We would be shifting here on the 1st. New year, new home!"
She sounded so excited and thrilled. My speech had left me. Even if I had the capacity, I knew it would be useless arguing with her. I counted the days and discovered that I had only 2 days. Two days to say goodbye. Two days to forget. Two days to move on. Two days to love.
