Part One - Let's Start in Reality

Rin hummed to herself, softly tapping her pen against the table to emphasize the more powerful notes. She found humming the tune calming, though she was annoyed that the same few bars played over and over in her head in an unending cycle. At least if the entire song was stuck, it would be like she had her headphones in. Though, she did like the song, so she supposed it wasn't as bad as it could've been. If it had been a song which she had no particular feelings towards - much less one that she disliked - then it would've probably been a very long morning. Looking at it that way, it seemed that her situation actually wasn't that bad.

Rin hummed a bit too loudly, evidently without care for her classmates. It wasn't that she didn't care about disturbing them, but that she simply had no fear of the people around her being annoyed or of the teacher scolding her. There was no need to be concerned about things like that, because she was who she was. Perhaps if she wasn't 'Rin', things would be different, but that wasn't the case. And so she hummed at a volume that should've been heard but wasn't.

"What song were you humming earlier?"

"Moonlight Sonata, third movement." Rin murmured in an unfocused tone, instead pouring all her attention into the assigned questions from class. She had hoped to get them at least half done over lunch, but since Kana had come over she couldn't say with confidence that she would be able to to. Kana was clearly bored and she enjoyed being bored about as much as anybody else. Since inactivity seemed to be the bane of her existence, she was searching for something to do. As long as she found a friend over lunch, she would join into whatever activity they were doing, but it seemed that she had decided to join Rin. Rin simply wanted to do her homework (which was an absolutely riveting activity). Weighing her situation, Rin concluded that there was probably a single digit chance of Kana just leaving her to her work.

"Yeah, don't know it. Either way, I could hear you all the way at the front of the classroom." Kana said in a scolding tone, perhaps implying that Rin shouldn't be a bother to her classmates.

"Only you." Rin replied shortly, as if saying 'Isn't it fine as long as nobody else is bothered by it?' in the shortest sentence possible. Rin opted to lay low and hope something new and interesting caught Kana's attention. Kana sometimes acted like a puppy with it's toys - the squeaky interesting one is always better than the boring quiet one.

"Point taken." Kana conceded after some consideration. Rin allowed herself a moment of relief, but it didn't last long. As if remembering something, Kana's eyes lit up with a child-like glow and her expression shifted from scolding to playful. It was clear that she had something she wanted to say, and Rin's chances of escape had dropped to 0%. Even if she tried to avoid it, Rin knew she would have to give into whatever Kana wanted to do at some point. Doing anything with Kana required a lot of effort, the exertion of which Rin tried to avoid at all costs. Some would call Rin lazy, though she preferred to think of herself as eco-friendly. As much as she wished to pawn Kana off to someone else, Kana's eyes had locked onto Rin. And Rin could never say no to Kana.

"So is there anything you need?" Rin resigned herself temporarily to Kana's will, though she still had hope that there'd be a way out of whatever she was asked to do later. Rin supposed that as long as it was with Kana, no matter what they were doing, it would be entertaining, though she feared the exhaustion that usually came with it. She allowed herself a moment to speculate on what Kana probably wanted. It was probably something simple and innocent, but would drag Rin away from what she wanted to be doing. Considering the time of day, Kana probably only wanted the innocent activity of eating lunch together with Rin.

"Let's eat lunch together." It wasn't a question, and she continued without missing a beat. "It's such a nice day, let's not waste it inside. Why don't we go eat on the roof?"
