We got bored quicker than we thought, so we headed towards the hospital a little early. I don’t know why I like doing this, but seeing the kids’ smile just warms my heart. I don’t only talk to kids but I sometimes talk to old people. I like how they talk about the old days and would always made me think on why I didn’t do that. Isom and I walked around the hospital for a good five minutes or so, just looking around and being lost. Then we ended up on the pediatrician floor. “I talked to this kid the other day. Her name’s Lisa.” I started,

            “Really?”

I nodded, “That poor kid’s been diagnosed with leukemia and she’s only fifteen.”

He let out a silent gasp, “Poor kid.”

“She admiringly loves you.” I blurted, “Like, seriously, you’re her favorite in the band.”

            “Aw, shucks.” He giggled,

“Some people are tougher than you think.” I turned the topic a little,

            He nodded, “Point proven.”

I had my eyes all over the room, when it landed on something that shattered my heart. I stopped on my tracks and my jaw was hanging reflexively. I know it’s rude to stare, but I couldn’t help it. “She’s only got a few hours.” A soft voice sent shivers down my spine. It’s not the way it was delivered but the words. She’s only got a few hours. I turned to find Ryan giving me a sincere look, meaning that he wasn’t joking.

            “Are you sure?”

He glanced at Lisa and then back at me, “I’m really sorry, but there’s nothing else we can do. It’s too late to save her.”

I glanced at Isom, and then Lisa, and then Ryan. “Are you sure?” I asked again,

He sighed, “I don’t know, but maybe a miracle could happen.”

            “Where are her parents?”

            “They’re on a plane, but I don’t know when they’ll land.”

“Why would they be on a plane? Their daughter is right here.”

He dropped his hands on my shoulders and gave me a kiss on the forehead, “Look, her parents just recently split up. Her dad’s in Colorado and her mom’s picking him up. You can keep her accompanied because I have to go to the third floor, okay?”

I sighed and grabbed Isom’s hand, “I’ll see you later. Come on, Isom.”

“I’ll see you later.” He winked and turned on his heels,

“What do I say?” Isom asked,

I shrugged, “You’ll think about something.”

He stopped all of a sudden and caused me to stumble a few steps back, “You’re doing a really nice thing.”

I could feel the color crawling into my cheeks, “It could change the way you see things.”

            “Maybe you’re right.”

I hesitantly peeked in and a huge lump was formed in my throat. I peeked in to find a thin fifteen-year-old girl with an oxygen tube hugging her face. Her skin looked like porcelain and her eyes were baggy and hollow. The fact that she only has a few hours left scares the shit out of me. “Hey, Lisa.” I greeted softly,
