Thankfully, the stage was big enough for all of us. The sets have been moved for a more efficient spacing. It’s about one minute to the official countdown. I could feel the excitement building up. There was no music, only the sound of people talking to each other. Time seems to go slowly as the clocks kept on ticking. Ryan had his hands on the small of my back and I had mine around his neck. On a normal day, one of the guys would kill him. Well, today is a different day because everyone’s doing it. “A new year, a new start.” Ryan whispered,
I nodded, “Yea.”
“Alright, you party people!” Mark shouted, “Get your loved ones and be ready for a new years smooch!”
“Brace yourselves! We’re starting the countdown!” Pontius shrieked,
“TEN… NINE… EIGHT… SEVEN… SIX… FIVE… FOUR…”
Ryan pressed his forehead against mine and pulled me harder against him, “Let’s start something new.”
“Like what?”
“THREE…”
“…”
“Where are you going with this?”
“TWO… ONE! HAPPY NEW YEARS!” Millions of confetti and streamers dropped from the ground. People were shouting and kisses were given. Confetti guns were shot and trumpets were blown. It was loud, but Ryan somehow made it silent. Behind Ryan, the guys were kissing their girls. Everyone was kissing except Ryan and I. The two of us were just standing there in a moment if silence.
“Marry me.” He whispered right in my ear,
My heart stopped, my breath caught, and my stomach churned. A bomb of rainbows and unicorns exploded inside me. The butterflies evolved into dinosaurs in my stomach. This is one of the hardest slap to the face I’ve ever experienced. “What?”
The next thing I knew, he was down on one knee and his eyes were looking hopefully up at me. I could feel the sweat in his cold and slightly shaking hands. “Marry me, beautiful.”
Everything stopped and it became deafening silent. It was so silent that I was surprised. I never knew that it was possible to be this silent with this many people in it. I could feel eyes on Ryan and I. I’ve never felt this pressured before. The guys had their jaws hanging and so were the girls’. Everyone was waiting for me and I feel really pressured. “Come on!” A random guy yelled,
I took a deep painful breath, “Y-yes.”
The color on Ryan’s face crawled back and he had this widest grin ever. He stood up and pulled me close to him, planting a kiss right on the lips. I guess that was my new years kiss. I heard a million people react differently. I can’t believe that it just happened. Holy crap, Ryan Harrison just popped the question on me. “Did I just do that?” He said between kisses,
“I’m having a hard time believing too.” I smiled,
“And this is what I meant by a new beginning. God, I love you so much.”
“I love you too, doc.”
“I just proposed to you.”
I nodded, “You just did. In front of all these people.”
“I guess people do crazy things when they’re in love.” He kissed me again, “This is the best thing I’ve ever done.”
