*Liberty's POV*

"Hi mom."

I waved nervously at the woman as I watched her expressions go from surprised, to shocked, to angry, and then confused.

"Liberty," she said, glaring daggers at me, "what is the meaning of this?  Why aren't you at school?"  My mother then directed her attention to the man standing next to me.  "And who are you?!"

"Mom, I can explain in a minute.  But, could we come in?  It's raining out here."

The woman uttered a small "humph!" before stepping aside, letting us in, and slamming the door.  I gestured for us to sit at the dining room table and got up to see if we had any tea to offer my "guest".

After putting a pot of water on the stove, I returned to the old, wooden table and took a seat.  "Okay, before you freak out, I didn't get kicked out of school.  Kind of the opposite, actually."  "Then who is he?  And if you didn't get expelled then why are you at home?  Are you sick or something?"

"No, mom, I'm not sick.  This is Mr. Song, and he is a manager from the company Big Hit Entertainment."

My guest smiled and bowed his head.  "A pleasure to meet you Ms. Choi."  My mom was frowning, but she slowly bowed her head in greeting as well.  "You're from an entertainment company?" she questioned, her mouth still twisted upside-down.  "What do you want with her?"

"You see, ma'am, our company was notified of your daughter's excellence in school, and her interest in working in the entertainment business, and so I have come to offer her a job."  I had been watching my mother's face the entire time he spoke, and so far I couldn't label her stony expression.  Her dark brown eyes were narrowed as she looked between the two of us.

"What kind of job?" she finally asked.

I released a silent breath that I didn't realize I had been holding and braced myself for the reaction I was going to get out of her after this next statement.

"Mr. Song is actually the manager of the boy band BTS, I think you know them, right, mom?  Well, he has some work that needs to be done overseas for a while and needs a replacement manager...................meaning me."  I nervously stared at the serious woman in front of me, and so I immediately noticed when a flash of uncertainty crossed her face.

"So, let me get this straight.  You, the 18 year old, are going to be trusted AND paid to be a manager for a popular boy band?"

"That is correct Ms. Choi," Mr. Song answered for me.

Dead silence filled the atmosphere until the only sound that could be heard was the boiling of the kettle from the stovetop.  I quickly jumped up to go finish making the tea and allow my mother some time to think about all of the information I had just given her.

I poured three mugs of the steaming liquid and grabbed a small box of cookies to shake onto a platter, and then proceeded to take a seat at the table again.  "Say I agreed to all of this Liberty...............what would you do about school?"  She looked at me expectantly, waiting for a valid answer.

"Uh, you see, the schedule I'm on right now will allow me to graduate by the end of this month, mom.  And it would just be a small, private ceremony, because the rest of the school graduates next semester."

I looked at her hopefully, and saw something in her gaze twitch ever-so-slightly.

"Fine."

Wait.  Wait.  WHAT?!

"Y-you........you mean it?!" I asked her breathlessly.  I cannot believe she's agreeing to this so fast!  I've barely told her anything except what the job is!  This is almost too good to be true..............I wonder if there's a catc-
