Chapter 6

Hilary picks up the baby and heads to the meeting room where several people were working on the Sam Samwell case. There was pictures of Heidi and Holly and Holly's mother Adele Carling on a whiteboard whilst on another whiteboard Hilary's people had created a timeline from when Adele had first met Sam Samwell to today.

Hilary walks up to Chad. A man with blonde hair. He grins at her "Hey boss.. You giving motherhood a try then?.."

She frowns at him. "Shut up Chad.. Your not funny.. I'm still not happy at you lot for skiving off."

He grins "Yeah sorry about that.. It's just we don't get paid enough..."

Hilary rolls her eyes at him. "You might get paid even less after this case and who knows if you still have a job."
He looks at her fearfully and decided to shut his mouth.
Sally walks into the room hearing this conversation. Sally grins at Hilary "Nice one boss...That shut him up alright!.. Everyone has been trying to shut him up all week."

Hilary grinned at Sally with her red hair and brown eyes. "Glad I could be of service."

Hilary brushes her black hair out of her face and looks at everyone seriously determined to get down to business. "So what have we got?..."

Chad grabs the files from the side of him and opens it. "Well boss it seems this Sam Samwell guy is kind of a bad character.. He has form and he's been in prison before but since then this guy hasn't been on any police radar."

Hilary nodded "Until now of course.. But that doesn't mean he hasn't been involved in any criminal activity."

Chad smiles at her boss. "Agreed." He points to the whiteboard. "As you can see.. Adele Carling met him in 1991 and gave birth to her daughter Holly Carling in 1993."

Hilary nodded "Any contact between then and now?."

Chad "None to the daughter but we have been checking the phone records and it seems that Adele Carling did a runner shortly after she gave birth to her daughter."

Hilary frowns "You came to this conclusion how exactly?."

Chad sighs "Sorry I'll explain.. They contacted each other everyday according to the phone records but shortly after Holly's birth the phone calls stop in their tracks... Even if you tried ring the number she used back then which we have and checked it with our records.." He flicks through the file "We have found that number was disconnected shortly after Adele gave birth."

Hilary nodded "Please continue." Heidi fusses in Hilary's arms trying to get down on the floor.

Sally sighs. "Would you like me to take her to the front desk for a bit?."

Hilary smiles "Would you?.. Your a star!." Sally takes Heidi off Hilary and leaves the room.

Hilary turns back to Chad impatiently waiting for him to continue.

Chad empties his throat and continues. "According to the file.. There was a few unsolved murders around Samwell's area but when the officers questioned Samwell there was a lack of evidence and unfortunately had to let him go."

Hilary frowned "Why was he imprisoned then?."

Chad takes a look at the file once more. "Well it seems after Adele left he had a number of girlfriends which all claimed he beat them out on a regular basis but there is no evidence that he did the same to Adele because as far as we can see she didn't report him for anything or have frequent hospital visits."

Hilary raises her eyebrow "So we can rule out domestic violence then?."

Chad shrugs "It could still be an option so we better not rule it out entirely."

Hilary nodded. "Agreed.. What else do we know?."

Chad looks at the file. "Wow this is interesting..."

Hilary looks on excited with anticipation. "What.. What is it?".

Chad grins "It seems that Adele placed Holly's father around the time of her birth on the birth certificate but then much later requested a copy without the father's name on."

Hilary frowned "That is interesting good work."

Chad grins "Thanks boss."

Hilary walks back and forth. "I don't think holly knows who he is.. If he's as dangerous as you'll say then we'd better find her because I may have just sent her to the lion's den."

Chad frowns "What do you mean ma'am?"

Hilary shrugs "She came to see me earlier.. She was concerned about the amount of strange phone calls from this man Samwell and thought her mother might be missing.. So I asked Sally to trace the Mother's phone and that leaded to a place called Alexandra park."

He puts his hand on her shoulder to comfort her. "Shall I send a team down there?."

Hilary nods "It's all my fault.. It's such a rookie mistake!."

He shakes his head. "We are all to blame here.. We should've never skived off.. Don't worry we will find them and when we do. We will take Samwell down."
