CHAPTER 2

A week passed and Reagan still hadn’t heard from her dad. She was getting really worried. Every time she tried to call him, she couldn’t get through. Somehow his number was no longer in service. Even when she called her dad’s office, they all said the same thing and that he was still on a business trip. She knew that they were hiding something from her but even if she wanted to barge in into their company, she still wouldn’t get the answer that she wanted. She didn’t have any other way to contact him now that his cell was no longer working.

A coffee cup came into Reagan’s view and she looked up to see that it was Seth. She gave a weak smile and took the cup from his hand. “Thanks.” She said.

“Still no news?” Seth asked as he sat next to her on the small steps of her house.

“Nothing. It’s just not like him to not call me and explain why he couldn’t make it back home.” She sighed. “I’m seriously getting anxious right now and not once had i let my phone out of my sight just in case he would call me or text me. Danny’s been in a bad mood ever since that night and he even lost his appetite. He hadn’t been eating right this past few days and he’s getting thinner by the minute. i just hope that he wouldn’t fall sick. I really hope that nothing bad happened to our dad. I really couldn’t bear to lose another parent…..i….i….”

Seth grabbed hold both of her hands to stop her from shaking. “Breathe Reagan….deep breathe. I’m sure everything’s fine. Something must have come up and that’s probably why he hasn’t called you yet.” He said to ease her anxiety.

Reagan did as she was told and took few deep breathe to calm her nervousness. Her eyes were wet and she looked away so that Seth wouldn’t see her crying. She didn’t like crying in front of Seth because she had done it so many times before when her mother died. She didn’t like him to see her being so vulnerable.

She felt arms wrapped around her and Seth’s head forehead on the back of her neck. He held onto her tightly assuring her that she could also depend on him and not only herself. Reagan turned around in his arms and rested her head on his shoulder.

They sat there on the porch in silence for what seemed like forever the sound of the front door opening brought them back down to earth. Reagan turned around and saw Danny rubbing one of his eyes and with the other hand he was holding onto his superman figure. He looked like he had just woken up from his nap. Slowly Danny inched closer to them.

Seth released his arms from around Reagan and got up. He picked Danny up and with a grin on his face he said, “Hello there buddy. Did you have a good sleep?”

Danny only kept on rubbing his eyes and yawned. Seth chuckled at him and looked over to Reagan. Reagan rose to her feet and walked towards them. She smiled at how Seth treated her brother like he was his own. She knew that Seth cared for him the way he cared for her. He had always been the big brother that Danny never had. Reagan was really grateful for having him in their life.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Seth said.

Reagan woke up from her trance, “It’s nothing.”

“Why? Am i really that good looking? Have you started to fall in love with me?” He teased. Reagan could only roll her eyes at him. She walked closer to them and took Danny from him. Danny instantly wrapped his arms around her neck and placed his head on her shoulder. She brought him inside and Seth followed behind.

That night Seth volunteered to make dinner for them. He cooked them his signature dish – spaghetti and meatballs. He managed to get Danny to eat again and Reagan was thankful for that.
