Chapter 3

I glanced curiously at Skyline the tiger. She was flabbergasted.

"What?" She asked. Smoke glared at her and flicked his tail warningly. He placed a paw in front if him, his ears laid back, and he bared his teeth slightly. She stepped back and bared her teeth, also laying her ears down.

"Take her!" Smoke growled. I stared at Skyline, tears forming in my eyes. Her ears were picked up and she closed her mouth. Sorrow sang in her eyes.

"Okay, I'll take her, but I also have my own cubs to take care if too," she meowed. Smoke grinned and licked Skyline's ears and nose. She glanced at me and picked me up by the neck. I was carried into the what I was told the 'Cat Square'. She took a right and started sprinting to her den, which turned out to be a cave.

"Mommy's home!" I heard a yip from inside the cave. I felt the corners of her mouth curl up into a grin. She set me down between two furry walls.

"Hello, my babies!' She cried and licked both their heads and ears. Turns out, the furry walls were two tiger cubs.

"Why does that tiger looked weird?" The tiger cub one the right of me asked, staring at me with curiosity.

"Because that's not a tiger, that's a wolf," she answered. As soon as she said that, the two cubs hunched their backs and hissed, laying their ears down flat on their heads. "Calm down, she's just a pup. This is Star!" They both seemed to relax a little.

"I'm Stripes," the one that asked why I looked weird introduced. A boy, I could tell.

"I'm Rocky," the second one answered. A girl. "Why do they call you Star? Every cat has a reason for their names. I'm named Rocky because I was born on Rocky Mountains, believe it or not."

"Uh, my paw," I answered and held my paw up. It had a star scar on it.

"Oh," Rocky meowed and licked Stripe to get his attention. She motioned to my paw. Stripe seemed un-interested, but his eyes looked like he wanted to know more.

"How did that happen?" He questioned, glancing up at me.

"Erm-" I was about to answer, but Skyline cut me off.

"Legends say that the runt if every pack gets a scar on their paw and get left out in the wild," she answered. "I'm going to get dinner, be right back!"

"Whoa, you were the runt?" Rocky meowed. I couldn't believe it either. I was the runt?

"I never knew that," I barked silently. I plopped down and wagged my small tail slightly.

"Wanna play fight?" Rocky suggested, trying to lighten the mood. I cocked my head.

"Play fighting?" I asked. Stripe rolled his deep brown eyes and tackled Rocky. They started biting and scratching each other. "Oh. Sure."

"Cool," Rocky said, climbing off of her brother. "Ready?" I nodded and she pounced. I smoothly dodged the attack and she hit the dark cold floor hard. I mimicked her pouncing move and pounce in her. She was snapping her jaws, trying to bite me. I playfully bit her neck. I sunk my claws a little ways into her fur and she yelped.

"YEOW!" She hissed and jumped, knocking me off balance. "OW!" She glared at me and I shyly looked away. Hey, I was new at this. "Am I bleeding?"

"Uh, nope," Stripe answered, popping the p. Stripe glanced at me and when I caught his eye, he smirked. His expression read, 'good job, runt'.

"Ow! That hurt!!" Rocky whined and laid down. I silently padded to the very back of the cave. Once I felt cold wall in front of me, I plopped down and spread my paws along the walls.

"Hey, kid," I heard Stripe's voice quietly. I laid my ears back.

"Ya?" I asked.

"Where'd you learn to do that?" He asked, plopping down next to me. I shrugged, refusing the look at him. I stared at my star tattoo.

"I don't know," I finally growled. He smirked.

"Wanna try me?" He asked playfully and hopped up, placing his paws on my furry back. I shook my head. "Why not? Scared?" He sunk his claws into my back. I growled and back flipped onto his back. I placed my paw into his neck, pushing it onto the floor. He kicked his back claws, but I sunk my claws into HIS back and bit his neck.

"Don't ever, EVER do that again," I growled and hopped off him. He seemed impressed. I sniffed and smelled the familiar smell if Skyline. I dashed to the entrance of the cave and Skyline was there, licking Rocky's back.

"What'd you do to her?" Skyline asked softly. I glanced at the floor, not answering.

"Play fighting and she's pretty good at it too," Stripe answered for me. Skyline nodded.

"Lets eat," Rocky meowed, padding over to the deer Skyline dragged in. Skyline ripped open the stomach.

"Liver, please," I howled and Skyline glanced at me. "Natural wolf thing." She nodded and dug out the liver. She tossed it over to me and I dug in. Rocky and Stripe were given a slab of raw meat, which they made a mess with. Skyline dragged the remaining's to the back of the cave.

"Is the liver good?" Rocky asked. I nodded, finishing the last piece of it.

"Sorry, for hurting you," I apologized.

"It's okay, I know it was your first time," she answered.

"Dang!! You ate a whole liver?" Stripe asked, clearly amazed.

"Yea," I answered slowly.

"How are you doing?" A deep voice asked from behind me. I turned and saw Smoke.
