PRECIOUS
"What's up boo?" I answered the phone, while deeply inhaling some freshly rolled herb.
"Hey. I just wanted to check on the home front," Tyler whispered into the phone.
"Everything is good but I told you this an hour ago. Is everything alright, baby?"
Tyler inhaled deeply and sighed.
I'd learned over the years, that his sighs never meant anything good.
"Come on, baby. Talk to me. What's wrong?" I pleaded with him.
"I found someone. Here at school, Precious."
"What do you mean, you found someone, Tyler?" I questioned.
"Her name is Carla, and I think that she's the one for me. I'm sorry for hurting you like this,"
"You're sorry for hurting me like this? That's the best line you can give me? Five years invested into this relationship and you are just giving up what we've shared for some random fly by night? I can't believe this, Tyler!" My eyes burned from the tears that were beginning to well up.
"I care for you Precious, I really do. But, Carla is the type of woman that I can take home to meet my mother."
"Oh, so now I'm not woman enough to meet your mother? I don't understand why you're doing this to us, Tyler." I couldn't fight off the tears any longer.
Tears streamed from my eyes like a river.
"It's nothing personal, Precious. I am sorry if it feels or sounds like I'm attacking you. It's truly not intentional. Look, I care for you so I am not going to hide this from you... We are getting married tomorrow." Tyler's voice quivered as he spoke.
It felt like someone dropped a ton of cement on my chest. I began to gasp rapidly, trying to fill my lungs with air.
"Married? How could you be getting married to another woman when I am the one you love? How is that going to work? Our souls are intertwined with one another!" I cried hysterically into the receiver.
"I knew that this wasn't going to be easy for you. That's why I decided that you could have the house and the car. But please after tonight, do not call my home or come looking for me because my wife won't be happy or very understanding. Goodbye, Precious."

That was five long years ago...
After that heart wrenching phone call, I bumped into his sister one time in the supermarket. She told me that Tyler had two children and was living a happy life... Ain't that about a bitch! Here I was, struggling to put my life back together and he was living the good life. That was all I needed to hear to know that it was time to find my happy place. For the third time, I checked myself into rehab... This time with a new goal in mind, me! It was during this stint, that I met my now current girlfriend... Christine. That's right, your girl went to bat for the other team!
Now, Christine was everything that you could ask for in a partner. Yet, I still didn't feel complete. Don't get me wrong, she is the total package; brains, beauty and body but she's lacking one thing. And, it's the one thing that will forever have a hold on me. I love men! No sex toy could ever replace the presence of a warm sweaty man! There were days when I still found myself lingering in chatrooms, seeking that male companionship.
Today, would be one of those days. As soon as I signed into my Plenty of Fish profile, I received a private message from a guy listed as anonymous. There were no pictures, information listed or anything. But after debating for a few minutes, I decided to open the message. I mean... what harm could it do, right? Wrong! As soon as the message opened, it felt like my jaw had become bottomless from the way it was hanging.
"Not a day goes by that I do not miss what we had. I have been regretting my decision to end things with you, ever since the day I said, "I do". My heart has always belonged to you and I don't know what I was thinking when I abandoned you. I am so sorry that I was so careless with your heart. I love you, Precious. I always have and always will. ~Tyler
Now, ain't that some shit! They say, "If you truly love someone, set them free. And, if they come back then that's how you know that they're truly yours." Well, I ain't never stood in the way of destiny and I am not about to start now!
