Finally the D-day arrived the day of my trial, and the apprehension was very thick in the air. Mostly me trying to stay calm and ignore all of the stares and whispers that had been going on the past few days only intensified by the fact that there were now other packs in the castle, their stares penetrating me, looking me up and down analyzing me.
Possibly on my last day of freedom.
The not trying to let the words get to me was a little hard, my irritation levels were rising and I needed to get out of sight for a while.
I push the doors open and the smell of books greets my nose, I go up to the front desk looking to see if the old lady was there. "Grandma! Are you here?"
I hear a slight scuffling and then the old lady appears holding a tall stack of books. "Help me with these will you cub?"
I rush over to her taking the stack of books from her hands.
"Just sit them over there..." She says waving in the general direction where there are a bunch of other books piled up.
I place them down gently.
"What brings you here cub?" She asks going around her desk looking around at papers.
"I just needed somewhere to escape,"
She nods her head in understanding. "The whispers of the other wolves becoming too much."
I nod my head.
"You're a strong girl... You're the first female Alpha this pack has seen, of course besides the Luna. You've intimidated a lot of people and broke what they saw as a norm. You are destined by the goddess to do great things, you've seen what's in the books."
I sigh. "I know, that's what you keep telling me, what I've been hearing since I was young. But I've yet to see anything-"
"You've found them haven't you? I can see it all over you. You've found the two... Now you have to make the choice between Love and Duty..."
"But... How can I? I don't want to hurt either of them..." I whisper.
She comes around the desk and holds both of my hands. "Now is the time to stop running... It's now time for you to finish what you uncovered three years ago, defeat the faults in and outside the den."
I sigh and look out of the stain glass windows. "Right..."
***
I make my way over to the infirmary to talk to mother for a bit before heading back to the den and talking to Bridge and Jewels.
I'd been avoiding Erik and Leo at all costs.
But today I don't think that I'd be able to do that.
I knock on the door to the infirmary and Mother's voice tells me to enter. As soon as I walk through the door she stops everything she's doing and immediately comes over to hug me, her arms encircling me tightly her hand stroking my hair.
"Oh, my Little Alpha,"
"Mutter..."
She doesn't say anything else because there was nothing else to be said, we both knew what the situation was today. Words weren't going to do anything to change what was happening today.
I pull back from her embrace and then look at her. "I have a question... Have you ever heard of someone having two mates?"
"Two?"
I nod.
There is something in her eyes that says she might know something.
"What, what is it?"
"There is a legend one passed down through the ages."
"Tell me."
She nods and begins explaining.
***
For my last stop before I am called down, in fact the two guards who are to escort me are already with me.
I have to go and see the Alpha of the Silver falls.
I push open the doors and walk inside the room Alpha Nikoli dismissing them immediately.
"Called me here to get my final words?"
"Please, take a seat," he says regarding me calmly.
"I'm fine thank you."
He sighs. "Straight to the point, I'm once again offering you the chance to be part of the Silver falls, The council is willing to exonerate you under the condition that you are under our total supervision."
I slightly chuckle. "And again I will have to refuse your offer, Alpha."
He slams his hands down on his desk I can see the tiny cracks in the wooden surface of the table. "It shouldn't be like this, This is your Birthright! I am only trying to help you!"
I narrow my eyes at him. "Like you did mother? Where were you when she needed you then?" I step forward. "Don't come to me now with this birthright bullshit now, if you wanted me to be known as your daughter you would have claimed me. But no, you didn't." I turn away from him knocking on the door lightly to let the guards know that I was ready to go. "So let me go with dignity that I have earned on my own without you, father." I say spitting out the last word like poison as the guards led me out towards my fate.
