I sprint downstairs with my last box, I'm leaving today. I'm moving out of my parents house to be by myself, to have a job, to have a future. I set the box down onto the kitchen table and I walk back upstairs to check my bedroom to see if I forgot anything.
I do a quick search around the small empty room, it has cream colored walls and a big window looking out on the street. I live in a small town next to Portland Oregon. Nothing special, just a normal part of the state. Its a really scenic place to look at the ocean, or the mountains. That's only one of the reasons why I love this state, but I want to be on my own.
I want to live a new life, meet new people, try new things. This is the biggest change I'm going to make, other than dying my hair a dark caramel brown. I finish searching around my room and head back downstairs. I go over to the kitchen table to look inside the box to see I have everything. I do.
"Hey, I'm really going to miss you, but you will visit right?" I hear a familiar voice say, I turn around and notice my younger sister standing there.
Her name is Julie, she's only seven. She has a big heart for her kindness. Julie is the most polite child you could ever meet. She has long blonde hair, blue eyes. Her blue eyes are a deep blue like the ocean, with a hint of gray.
She hands me a small picture of our whole family. My mom, dad, Julie and me. Our pet dog is also in the picture, he's a Siberian husky. With two different colored eyes. A blue and gray one. His coat is pure white, a long tail with a curl at the end. His name is Ash.
"Yes, Julie. I will visit." I say to her with a grin. She sniffles, and rushes in to hug me.
She starts to cry in my arms."Hey," I say to her going onto my knees to look her in the eye.
She look at me, waiting for me to keep going. She smiles, showing off her purely whites.
"I want to give you something." I say to her as I get up from the wooden ground. I turn around to open the box that's on the table. I dig around the cardboard box to find a locket with our family picture inside.
I find the locket and take it out to give it to Julie. She takes it while grinning, she then opens the locket. Julie stares at it for a second, closes it, and she holds it in her hand with a firm grip. Letting the chain of the necklace fall down, still holding the locket.
She embraces me again, this time the hug has a tighter hold. I knee down a second time to be at her height again.
"Thank you." She whispers into my ear while she rests her head onto my shoulder. She releases me from the hug.
"Can you help me put it on?" She ask me while handing me the locket.
As I clasp it around her neck, my parents make it down stairs with open arms, we all hug.
"I love you all, but this isn't the last time I'll see you. I hope you know that." I say to my family.
"Well of course, violet, We love you too. We should start heading to Seattle if we want to get there by six." My mom says to me, getting her car keys.
My dad and Julie aren't coming to Seattle because Julie has to sleep for school tomorrow. I wish they could come though.
I give my dad and Julie another hug and grab the box on the table. My mom grabs her keys and purse and starts to head out the door.
