Chapter 1
Astra's P.O.V
"ASTRA!!!!!!"
"ASTRA!!!!!!"
I rolled over and promptly fell out of the bed. As soon as I heard my mother's footsteps march up the stairs, I quickly jumped and acted like I was actually getting ready for school. My door flew open and my mother walked in like she was on a mission.
"Astra Queen Aldaine! If I have to call you one more time...so help me it will be the last! Do you understand?" My mother yelled at me.
"Yes mother dearest" I said rolling my eyes.
She opened her mouth like she wanted to say more, but then she just gave up on it and walked out.
And then she said this: "By the way, it's 8:25!"
My eyes bugged out of my head as I realized I was going to be late on the first day of my sophomore year at a new school. I rushed to my closet and pulled out the first outfit I saw. It was a grey sweater, light pink skinny jeans, a floral infinity scarf, black wedge ankle boots and small pink rose earrings.
I went to the bathroom and took a quick shower then put on my eye makeup which was said makes my blue eyes pop, brushed my long black hair and threw it i to a messy ponytail. I swiped on deodorant and put on a pair of blue undergarments. I jumped into my outfit, grabbed my IPhone 6S and flew down the stair nearly busting my ass on the way.
I slid into the kitchen and went straight to the bread container and took out a blueberry bagel. I grabbed my car keys and went to the garage opening it on my way to my car. I had the new Audi 5, courtesy of my rich but distant father. My phone was from him too.
My mother had the distinct privilege of marrying the owner of the hottest clothing line in town and he was the best friend of the owner of the Audi corporation. But as soon as he heard mother was pregnant with me, he up and left because he wasn't "ready" (I laughed so damn hard when I wrote this part😂) to be a father yet. He did send us monthly checks though which was a plus, IshockedAlthough I did find it wierd that my parents never got a divorce aftery dad left.
Pulling my head out of my thought I got in my car, quickly backed out of the driveway. My mother waved at me from the edge of the driveway. Tires squealing. I peeled out of our cul de sac and started my drive to school. It was already 8:40 and school started at 9:00. And then I remembered that I still had to go to the office to get my locker combo and schedule. I sighed in frustration. I might as well take the tardy.
I pulled into a parking space and jumped out of my car, grabbing my keys, phone and grey backpack. I quickly locked my car doors and ran to the school doors. A few people were in the hallway which I guess was a good sign, until I heard the late bell ring. I sighed and went into the office. A woman who looked to be about in her twenties with light brown hair and blue eyes looked up and smiled.
" You must be the new student! I'm Ms. Hera. What's your name, darlin'?"
"Um, my name's Astra Aldaine..." I managed to squeak out. I had never been too good with people.
"Alright darlin'. Well, here's your schedule and hope you have a g-" She stopped suddenly and her eyes seemed to bug out of her head as she looked behind me and quickly rose to her feet.
"A-Aplha Ryder Kn-Knight. How m-may I help you?" Ms. Hera managed to stutter out.
I quickly turned around thinking it was the principal, but boy have I ever been more wrong. What stood in front of me was literally an angel, which seemed to be an understatement to me. He had beautiful tan skin, thick muscles and hazel eyes that seemed to peirce my soul when he looked at me. And boy did he look at me. As he stared at me his eyes seemed to darken at least 3 shades.
A growl seemed to rumble from within his chest. I tilted my head curiously. He then he suddenly rushed at me. I let out a shriek and tried to duck left but he was fast. Almost too fast. His arm shot out and wrapped around my waist as if it belonged there. He brought me to his chest and inhaled. Another growl seemed to rumble out from his chest that sounded a lot like mine. I pushed him and I don't think he expected it. I turned around and put my hands on my hips.
"Sorry to disappoint you." I said." But my names Astra, not mine."
I turned back around and grabbed by schedule and locker combo from Ms. Hera, who might say, looked like she was about to pass out from what just happened. I gave her a sympathetic look and turned around. And then walked past the guy named Ryder who looked just as shocked.
Pushing the office door open, I stepped out into the hallway and followed the map in my hand to find my locker. I looked for number 127 and found it. To my surprise, there was a blonde standing next to it with what I assumed was her locker door open. I walked up to my locker and put in my combination. She looked over and have me a bright smile, which instantly brightened up her chocolate eyes.
"Hi, I'm Tara Knight. What's your name?" She said sticking out her hand for me to shake.
"Hey, I'm Astra Aldaine and I just moved here to Seattle. You wouldn't happen to be Ryder's sister, would you?" I said shaking her hand.
"Yea actually, I promise you will love California, but what did he do this time?" She said with a slight sigh.
"Nothing big, he just got all weird, growled, and then proceeded to wrap his arm around me and say mine." I said.
Tara got a weird look on her face but it was gone before I could actually ask her about it.
"Oh, well Ryder's a practically joker so..... I wouldn't take anything he says too seriously." She said with a bright smile.
Then we heard a voice behind us say: " Oh sis, you wound me. How could you say such a thing like that?"
We looked behind us to see Ryder standing behind us. He locked eyes with me and then looked away.
"Because it true. Now me and Astra have to check our schedules to see if we have anything together."
"Oh good." Ryder said. "I'll join you!"
Tara heaved a sigh, but didn't say anything about it. We went on to show each others schedules to each other and found out that we had every class together. Even out lunch block was the same. Ryder only had one class with us, which was our first. Science. Tara sighed but linked her arm through mine and dragged me to our next class with a smirking Ryder filling behind us.
