•Zayn•

I woke up to a small cry and saw little Ryan wiggling around in his bed. His blanket was loose around him and he was kicking it off as he squirmed.

Getting out of the chair I went to get him and gently rocked him while leaving the room. I wanted Ava to get some sleep after having the twins.

Ryan calmed down and his hazel brown eyes looked up at me, cooing as we traveled down the hall. It was only 4:47am and most of the nurses were here for the night shift.

I fixed Ryan's beanie and he drifted back to sleep, slightly twitching as he dreams. He was the most precious thing in the world.

I went to the NICU to see Carter, but I looked through the window since I had Ryan with me. A nurse saw me and gave me a small smile before showing me the closest incubator.

There, asleep in the bed with tubes attached to him, was my other son, another mini look-alike of me. I placed my free hand on the glass just wanting to hold Carter and tuck dark hair back under his big beanie.

I teared up looking at him hoping that he gets healthier so I can hold him in my arms and bring him hone sooner.

A small gurgling distracted me and I saw Ryan woke up again staring up at me, almost trying to figure out who I am. I wiped away my tears before the nurse tapped the glass and wanted my attention.

She pointed to Carter and I saw him faintly move his head and open his eyes toward us, and when he saw me I gasped a bit.

He looked just like Ryan, a baby version of myself, but with soft, yet bright, sky blue eyes.

•Ava•

"So how are you feeling? Other than the pain?" The doctor asked me. I woke up awhile ago to a burning feeling in my lower regions/ my "parts" and no sign of Zayn or Ryan.

I figured Zayn took him for a walk.

"Still tired and sore, but mainly worried about Carter. Will he be okay?" I asked him weakly.

"Well, he's in good hands.

He seems to be accepting the nourishment without a problem, but because he wasn't getting it as well in the womb, there's a good chance he might have a disability, like blindness. But we are keeping an eye on him and we'll let you know if something comes up."

The doctor patted my knee and began to walk out as Zayn entered holding Ryan. Zayn looked between me and the doctor with a concerned expression and I saw his cheeks had tear marks on them.

"W-what did he say?" Zayn spoke hurriedly. "Are you ok? Do you hurt? How is Carter doing?"

"Zayn," I interrupted with a smile, "it's okay. Just relax. I'm fine, just hurting a bit." I looked down at a mumbling Ryan who was staring at Zayn, and I held up my hands so I could hold him.

Zayn gently laid him in my arms before running his hands along his face, taking a deep breath and wiping away a tear. Ryan began to cry and I figured he was hungry, so I moved my gown down and placed him against my chest.

"Ryan and I went to see Carter through the window." Zayn said softly. "He was so small and frail looking. But... it-it was as if the sensed each other, and they both woke up and just looked at each other.

But when I looked at Carter's eyes, they were different."

I winced a bit when Ryan decided to gnaw on my nipple, but I just looked at him with a curious look.

"What do you mean by different?"

Zayn's face became softer, and a little smile formed.

"The boys may look like a mini version of me and be identical to each other, but unlike Ryan, Carter has beautiful blue eyes."

I smiled at that thought, just trying to imagine it. I looked back down at Ryan who drifted off to sleep and pulled him away. Suddenly, as I was leaning up to put Ryan in his bin/bed, I got dizzy.

Zayn quickly got up and grabbed Ryan from me and I leaned back on the bed before entering the darkness that beckoned me.

So, how's the chapter? Probably just a filler, but it does help build the story a bit, no? I thought it'd be a cute "aww" moment to add in.
