Rain splattered Iris's nose. The small pup stared up into the sky wondering how long the downpour would last. Her fur was plastered to her tiny shaking body.
Iris was making her way down a narrow alleyway searching for some sort of shelter.A streak of lightning scorched the sky.
The dripping pup jumped at the sound of thunder that always promised to follow the flash of light in the sky.
It seemed like forever before she came upon a small cardboard box. It wasn't much and had a few leaks here and there, but it would have to do for the night. Iris shook herself to try and rid her fur from any excess water before curling into a ball and attempting sleep.
A crackle of thunder awoke the shivering pup from her light slumber. She stared up into the sky. Light patterns formed in the sky. Another crash of thunder sent a shiver down her spine. Iris never much liked thunder and it reminded her of when she was younger.
She was playing in the yard in front of a large twostory house. The grass had towered over her back then which made it very easy to hide amongst its tall green strands. Iris heard her named being called in the distance, but was too engrossed in a ladybug crawling up a blade of grass to take any notice of it. Iris found the red bug fascinating as it crawled up the leaf.
A light rain had begun to fall, but it didn't bother the young pup. As it became heavier she decided to make her way back to the cozy warm barn. Iris could no longer see where she was going as the rain became heavier. She relied on her other senses and let her nose lead her back home.
Shivering violently from the coldness of the air and rain she ran into the familiar barn where she had spent the first few weeks of her life. Iris padded deeper into the barn and took notice that there were no familiar sounds of her family. She began to panic. Her mother dog and her brothers never left when it rained and they would definitely not leave during a storm like this.
She approached the hay where she often slept, but only a found faded scent of her mother dog. Iris knew it was hopeless to try and find her and her brothers in this weather so she curled up into a whimpering mess, hoping to sleep through the storm. She missed the thudding heart beats, the warmth, the squeaks (even if they were annoying), the smell of her family. She knew they would eventually come back once the storm had past so she awaited that moment in the warmth of the hay.But they never did.
