That Fateful Night 3

"Hello girls! It's so kind of you to accompany Janine home! Come and have a seat!" exclaimed Mrs Jee as she unlocked the door to let us in.

"Mrs Jee....." we chorused together. " Janine...she...we are so sorry!"

"What happened to Janine?"

"We did try to save her,but..." said Ashley.

"to no avail.." continued Carol.

"Where is my Janine?"

"I'm sorry,Mrs Jee, our condolences. Janine has gone into eternal sleep." I said as calmly as I could.

"What?! My Janine is...dead?!"

" Yes..." I related the story to her. I nodded the movers to come in. They placed Janine into the floor and unravelled the cloth sheet.

"We are truly sorry, Mrs Jee!" we chorused.

"Wait..let me calm down.. Janine is.. dead? My one and only Janine?" asked Mrs Jee as she stared at Janine's body.

"The Campus River Company has promised to pay $500 000 to you and M Jee,and they will pay for the funeral and mortuary. " said Ashley.

We sat in the living room silently as Mrs Jee dialled Mr Jee to "come home right now, there is terrible news".

After a while, Mrs Jee said to us," Carol, Toby,Ashley, I know you were not at fault. It was Janine and her naughty attitude which led to this. Thank you for letting me know."

I passed all of Janine 's belongings to Mrs Jee. "Here they are."

"Thanks you, Toby. Thank you so much."

"Mrs Jee,we are willing to be your goddaughters. We will visit you whenever we are free," volunteered Ashley.

"Yes, we will treat you better than Janine," Carol added.

Just then, Mr Jee came and saw Janine on the floor, motionless. The movers had long gone. One of them had passed the their company's name card to Carol when Janine's parents are ready for the funeral.

"Janine! Why, what happened?!" exclaimed Mr Jee. I signaled to Carol and Ashley to relate to him the story while I keep Mrs Jee accompany.
